Father in law had a fondu party. Pretty fun with a bunch of people just hanging out.

Another stroganoff-night; beef-chuck with sweet peppers and baby portobellos. It was “leftovers” (had some braised beef chuck from a batch I made on Friday); I just cooked the mushrooms, peppers, and sauce a la minute. I had a quarter-bag of egg noodles in the pantry (no time to roll out fresh), so the kids and wifey got the bulk of the pasta and I had leftover rice. Dinner on the table in 45 mins flat.

For portioning, lunch for the next 3 days:

Fake Pollo Chicken (1.2kg chicken thigh, orange juice, oil, vinegar, lemon, paprika - marinaded overnight, grilled with lots of salt and pepper)
Rice - boiled with corn and peas

Will buy a big bag of salad leaves to have on the side

Easiest way to prep lunch if you have a large grill. Done in 15 minutes.

Egg sandwich from today, came out pretty cool… finally a decent photo with a black plate - it contrasts it well IMHO.

been lurking this topic for a while so i decided to post what’s now been my favorite meal for a few weeks (after reading CT’s thoughts about meat vs fish and starting to consume more of the latter):

white rice with smoked salmon and shrimp, with a touch (25 g to be specific) of low-fat mayo.

love this!

Wife’s birthday. We made her a chocolate cake with peanut butter filling and chocolate frosting. This was my piece.

We had to go buy sugar to make it…

Wow adarqui you’re really nailing the porn part of this thread, that some seriously good looking food going on there. The raspberry/blueberry/sandwich combo looks amazing. I really like the picture with the greens, fruit, and boiled eggs, the white plate framed in black is a nice touch to go along with the vivid colours. And are those rolled grape leaves I see?

All the food in this thread looks tasty but in an amateur porn sort of way haha, same actions but not the best lighting and the camera angles don’t take full advantage of the subject matter.
Can I offer a few tips?
De-clutter the shot. Keep the rest of the table out of the background and frame your shot so that all you see is the plate and the food. Avoid having the bottom of your glass or part of another dish in frame. Cutlery can stay but use it to set a scene or give perspective.
Colours that you should never wear together often look great together as food. Would you wear a red shirt with a bright yellow tie? Probably not but weird colour combos make each colour stand out when it’s food and colorful food equals exciting food.
Lighting is top priority. Try using the flash if you have to but get it bright so the colours pop and we can see what’s going on.
I’m also going to take my own advise and post some pics here in the next little while…

Yep, it sure does… another way to look at it is: Most of the preceding photos show food that was prepared for dinner, not the production of photography. Most of this food was shot with a quick snap before consumption, as opposed to a dedicated food-shoot.

I’ll change it up a bit.

I’ve attached some pics I took. They are a mix of shots from paid gigs, as well as some “snaps” from working on the line (food that I made, that was destined for service on a table, for paying customers… those are the tight, food-only, pics that have a plain background… I used to set up a “studio” at the end of the line consisting of black linens and small stobes)

Sure!

I’d say that like most “art-rules,” this one isn’t hard and fast.

!

That’s good advice.

Aother way to say it is: Dress every dish with a red and a green element… that’s what pro chefs do. “Eye-appeal is half the meal”

Unless you are using off-camera strobes… PLEASE GOD don’t use your flash. Instead, find a place with indirect (Soft & diffuse, meaning that the light source is significantly larger than the subject) light and experiment with the placement. Smaller light source (ie. “Hard light”) = More defined shadows, and in most cases, shadows are not your friend in food photos. The sun is a TINY light source relative to most subjects… that is why you see pro shoots using giant scrims to diffuse and spread-out the light, making it larger.

Looking forward to what you shoot/cook!

In the meantime, here are a few more:
