UFC Buys WFA

Rampage has motherfucking arrived. heath Herring for UFC HW champ? Me likey.

UFC had been trying to get Lindland back into the fold for the past few months but he was unable to get out of his WFA deal. Hopefully they’ll do the right thing and bring him right in and give him a shot at the MW title.

Rampage fits UFC’s current style of marketing fighters and he’d do good business in fights against Liddell, Ortiz and even Griffen.

Lindland is a tricky case. He is part of the IFL and that will always be a problem. I am 90% sure they secured Rampage. I hope they got Razor Rob McCollough…but there are rumors out that he signed with IFL. But man, this is a great day for Zuffa and UFC fans alike.

One thing I think is funny is that a lot of the current WFA stars are former UFC fighters who got dropped.

“Select fighter contracts”. Hope that includes Jackson and Lindland, but you never know.

I thinks that’s great. I like Rampage and hope he wipes out the LHW division. Lindland should take out Franklin then get a title shot.

One problem is that Lindland has stated his hatred of all things Dana White in a few interviews. and said he hates UFC rules. Money changes minds, and I don’t see anyone else chomping at the bit to pick him up with a big contract. I think Lindland is just the kind of guy to beat Anderson Silva and is a pretty likeable good ol country boy like Hughes.

Another good name is Lyoto Machida. He could add even more depth along with Rampage in a division that is sorely lacking it right now.

Rampage is hands down the most marketable fighter the UFC could have picked up. He’s a genuinely nice guy out of the ring and extremely fan friendly. And he also whipped the shit out of Chuck which sets up a nice rivarly after he thumps some guys like Rashad.

Would love to see Rampage in the UFC. However, he for sure needs some tune up fights like…3 before he fights Liddell. I think Tito would give him mass problems going by how he did in the Lindland fight. Who also needs to be back in the UFC. Lindland vs Silva.

185 could get even more stacked.

WFA have any heavyweights?

Nothing noteworthy, that is for sure. Herring will probably get outpointed by Timmah. Maybe some Croatian guy will show up Wednesday…

I think three fights is bit much. Despite Rampage’s fight with Lindland I think Rampage is too much for Ortiz. Give Rampage one fight then Liddel, we have been waiting a long time for them to have a rematch.

Rampage and Ortiz will never fight. Rampage has been known to train w/ Ortiz at Bearback Mountain for some of his fights.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Urijah Faber yet. For my money, he is neck and neck with Lindland as the best fighter in the WFA (Rampage is a bigger ‘name’, but let’s face it, he has really slipped recently). I would love to see a Faber-Sherk matchup or a Faber-Tyson Griffin rematch.

The other name that I havem’t seen mentioned is Mayhem Miller. He’s probably a long shot since he also has a contract with Icon, but he could also add some depth to the UFC 185 pound division.

Rampage is definitely in.

[quote]UFC ON A ?RAMPAGE,? ACQUIRES WFA CONTRACTS, TRADEMARK ASSETS

By Loretta Hunt

The mixed martial arts world continues to grow yet streamline at the same time.

According to a press release circulated today by Zuffa LLC, owners of the UFC, the thriving Las Vegas-based promotion has absorbed all of the assets still connected with the failing World Fighting Alliance organization.

?WFA Enterprises, LLC, a subsidiary of Zuffa, purchased select fighter contracts and the trademarks and other intellectual property of World Fighting Alliance, Inc., a corporation owned by Las Vegas attorneys, Ross Goodman and Louis Palazzo,? read the release.

Following a three year hiatus, the WFA had returned to Los Angeles in July with its ?King of the Streets? event, but had since postponed a follow-up date scheduled for the Aladdin Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

As announced by sherdog.com last week, former WFA CEO Jeremy Lappen had entered into legal proceedings against the WFA organization, citing a breach of contract for non-payment of services.

UFC president Fucking Dana White confirmed to The Fight Network this evening that light heavyweight standout Quinton ?Rampage? Jackson (22-6) is among the talents this acquisition has facilitated. Jackson remains one of UFC Light Heavyweight Chuck Liddell?s few and most high profile losses, dating back to the semi-final round of PRIDE?s Final Conflict 2003 tournament, where Jackson eliminated Liddell (19-3) via a TKO referee stoppage from strikes.

White did not reveal when fans can expect Rampage to make his Octagon debut.

Fighters Matt Lindland, Heath Herring, Ivan Salaverry, Jason ?Mayhem? Miller, and Urijah Faber have all been established in the past as under either exclusive or non-exclusive WFA contracts. Confirmation on their new status is yet to come.

Good call on Faber. Guy’s got a ton of potential and could be a big star in the UFC.

Don’t know about Mayhem joining UFC…he was around a year or two ago but he never returned (don’t know the specifics).

ICON sports signed him to fat contract to fight in their organization. He was one of their biggest draws & briefly held their 185 pound strap, but recently lost it to Frank Trigg.

Mayhem’s ICON contract is not exclusive (hence his signing with the WFA) but I don’t think that Zuffa would want to invest time & money in hyping a guy who is tied to another organization. I’d love to see 'em prove me wrong, but I doubt Mayhem’s contract will be one of the ‘assets’ that Zuffa purchases from the WFA.

I don’t know why they would really want to go after him hard anyway. He really didn’t do a whole lot in the UFC. I don’t see him competing for a title there.

He’s had one UFC fight and he took the current WW champ to a decision. That is no small feat considering the way GSP has been wrecking everyone in that division. He also owns wins over Pride WWGP finalist Denis Kang, former ICON MW champ Robbie Lawler, former WEC LHW champion Lodune Sincaid, and former Superbrawl MW champion Falaniko Vitale.

That’s a pretty solid resume no matter how you slice it. IMO, Mayhem is on the same level as guys like Nate Marquardt, David Louiseau, and Mike Swick.

miller got one fight in the UFC against GSP…and miller made it to a decision despite being bloodied very badly during the fight, can’t say the same for a former Welter weight champ…miller would be one of the most marketable athletes mma has, put him on the reality show as a coach and people would love him.

Lindland was not bound to the WFA, so he may or may not be fighting in the UFC, I would bet against him going over, but one can hope.

dammit, other post showed up before mine…I was slow
