T-Nation Alphabet Soup

Ahh, the humble acronym. A simple means by which to take big groups of commonly used words and smash them down to a couple of letters. One problem: if you’re a little new to the group using those acronyms, they ain’t helping you much. With that in mind, I thought I would start a thread to help demystify the alphabet soup you typically find here on T-Nation. I know when I first started out here I had NO idea what most of these things meant either and slowly (at times painfully) got up to speed. My list is by no means exhaustive (and my apologies to any contributors I overlooked), but hopefully it gets you started off on the right foot.

Again, this is a list based on the most commonly-used acronyms more than anything else. Maybe we can keep this list updated over time and in an easy to access form (so please be nice to the mods. LOL) Hopefully this can be a bit of a community effort, so if there is something I missed (I know how impossible that seems), post it.

On a side note, you might wanna avoid calling Chris Shugart’s super-popular Velocity Diet “VD” for 2 reasons:

  1. The obvious; and
  2. Chris might come to your house, roll you around in carpet tacks and then dip you in rubbing alcohol. Seriously. He’ll do it. Stick with V-Diet.

Fitness-speak:
TBW - total body weight
LBM - lean body mass
P+F - protein plus fat meal
P+C - protein plus carbs (both P+F and P+C are given a nice overview in this article by Shugs, “The Essential Berardi”: http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=460027 )
GPP - general physical preparedness (nice CW article on this at http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=468125 )

General fun:
IMO - In my opinion
IMHO - In my humble opinion
wrt - with regards to
LOL - laugh out loud
LMAO - laughing my ass off
ROFL - rolling on floor laughing

So there you have it! You’re very own Enigma machine for cracking the T-Nation code. Hopefully this can get you off to a fairly good start and I’m sure other members will chime in as well.

The back is doing a little better, but there is some discomfort. I’m guessing I need to lay off all pulling exercises for about a week (I hope not more than that).

Good Halo session last night, RJ. Your son is quite the up and coming player.

Yeah - but what about me, Kuz? Was I awesome or what? LMAO!!!

I think you might need a little practice, but you will come along nicely. FYI, that little punk from NY that was making fun of your accent ticked me off. When he was on my team he kept saying “Dude, we’re a great team!” I almost told him, “Get off my back - I’m sick of carrying your punk ass.” lol

Be out in the open, brother! I think I am going to start a gaming thread, see if we can get people to meet up for matches and such.

This is a great thread, and should be required reading for anyone new to this site. Nice work, Kuz!
