Happy 38th, my man! Hope it’s a good one.
Happy birthday mate
Happy Birthday, my dude. I, too, struggle to keep up with people’s stuff lately, but I feel you are a part of my continual journey of mediocrity.
Sometimes I hover over your log but I don’t click on it because it’ll just make me feel bad about my overhead press.
Well, I have moved over to DB pressing lately, so there really isn’t anything to be excited about. It’s all an illusion anyway.
10.3.22
I played basketball yesterday and missed another dunk because my vertical is down. Time to fix that.
Been slacking on the upper body lifts to let my bicep heal. In the meantime, I made this:
Today’s Work
BENCH
120 x 5
170 x 5
185 x 3
210 x 11

285 x 1

Anyone know how to keep progressing on low bar without destroying my wrists? The toughest part of today was tolerating the pain during unracking and racking.

Jump high, land soft.

Bicep is still strained so back work is limited.
New PR not even 2 weeks after the last one, awesome work, like you not got time for the forums I used to but still love this place and love seeing you stuff like this well done on being your strongest at 38, I got 2 years to try and say the same!
I am a midget compared to you so Tagging isn’t @wiseman83 he is taller than me and usually has some good ideas
Where is your thumb?
Is it wrapping the bar? This kills my wrists too with low bar, damn arms go forever.
With a low bar I prefer the thumb Over the bar, ala Starting Strength technique. Works for me in any case, and takes away the whole wrist breaking positioning.
Or just do high bar. Hahaha.
I found an article that addressed the location of pain and the possible reason. I think I was letting the bar go too low. I love the thumb over bar aka suicide grip on presses, but I haven’t tried it for squats yet.
I did an almost paused squat with 365 with low bar this week. My best high bar squat in recent months is 330. Low bar makes 405 a reality. It’s all completely arbitrary, but I’ve always wanted to squat 4 plates. If a technique change is the answer, I’m all for it!

I’m fairly certain that if I regularly lift heavy things, then I’ll maintain my current physique and strength. The caveat to this is that my volume is way down. But I think I’ll be fine.

185 x 5
225 x 5
275 x 2

No need to burn the candle on both ends. Heavy a little will get the job done.
Nice squatting, bro!
That flew man. Awesome work!
You still loving the career change?
I think that is correct. Dr. Schoenfeld’s says volume can be quite lot to just maintain what you have.
Thanks! Trying to keep the dream alive.
Yes I am! I wouldn’t change a thing… well maybe my class schedule, but that’s just nitpicking. I have four freshmen PE classes and two weight training classes. I wouldn’t mind flipping that, but I have to put in my time. I feel fortunate to have two weight training classes in my first year at a big school.
How are you liking your new-ish career?
Loving it mate, absolutely loving it.
Found my calling, loved every day since I started.
