Getting Faster By Getting Stronger

Here is a hypothetical:
My friend and I lift together I am a lot better at brute strength (DL,SQ) lifts than he is but he is better at explosive lifts. Would he benifit from doing more limit strength work, and I benifit from doing more speed work?
Thanks

Yes and yes

yes to both

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link (yeah, haven’t we heard that a thousand times before!).

So should the lifter who is better at limit strength, only lift in the 55-80% range? And should they only do explosive type lifts?
Thanks

What do you mean by “explosive type lifts?” Any lift can be explosive. I would say that if you are an athlete that you should try to be explosive on the concentric phase of every lift.

I wouldn’t say only. Maintain your ability to strain, and improve your trength-speed/speed-strength. A conjugate or concurrent approach would work well
