Developmental Issues at 16

Hey Tuna, sent you a pm. Let me know if it went through. Thanks guys for the support

Doctors are a difficult ordeal. My parents were dedicated to finding a pediatric endo, and would like nothing better than to treat one’s word as law. They are adverse to finding another doctor. I am trying to find pubmed journals that detail symptoms and problems directly caused by testosterone in my range. Convince my parents that the man was wrong from an objective standpoint.

PMs don’t work. It is very hard to find good docs and you being a minor and not being able to take control is difficult.

There is a revision by the endocrinologist association suggesting the limit for TSH should be 2.50 your TSH warrants more studies. Your high FSH shouldn’t be ignored and your testicles should at least be checked to rule out anything serious. How these morons refuse to at least check and rule out something secreting FSH is worthy of malpractice IMO.

I had a doc put my mom on a SSRI. The problem? hashimoto now that she’s on thyroid meds she is better. So yes there are a lot of really bad docs out there and it takes patience, research, and, a little luck to find one. It took me 5 docs until someone recommend me to one who would help me.

Are you in California?

No, Im not in cali

I so much as mentioned TSH revision and he asked me for my source. I said National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry. He said he was unfamiliar with them, and dismissed them as probably being British (wtf).

He said Primary Hypogonadism results in Lh/Fsh in the 20’s. Is that true?

He sounds like one of the docs I went to before. Close minded know it all.

LH and FSH don’t have to be way out of range. If it is high normal and T levels are low that is primary.

Your case is a little more complicated since LH and FSH are not moving together. There could be something secreting FSH from the pituitary or the testicles.

I’m in Cali so I was thinking of recommending you to some docs. Honestly, in your situation, you might have to wait until your 18 if your parents aren’t agreeing with you and most docs are apprehensive of doing anything at your age.

However, your really need to rule out testicular cancer.
Can you get the following?
Testicular ultrasound
Thyroglobulin, Thyoglobulin AB, TPO AB
Lupus panel

And there was: “My testes ache every about every two months, starting with the intense dieting while doing Insanity. It feels like one side is being sucked down somehow. Sometimes during sickness, they hurt.”

I am trying, I am. The pediatric endo expressedly told my mom no more labs. However I have convinced them somewhat with studies and guidelines.

I am trying to find an enthusiastic GP. I cannot find a TRT doc in regards to insurance.
Here is a big question however. Is my FSH elevated in context of my labs ranges? I have never seen a 1-34 range in any other source.

Ranges depend on the lab, but its probably a reference for women.

Quest:

FSH

Male 1.6-8.0 mIU/mL
Female
Follicular Phase 2.5-10.2 mIU/mL
Mid-Cycle Peak 3.1-17.7 mIU/mL
Luteal Phase 1.5- 9.1 mIU/mL
Postmenopausal 23.0-116.3 mIU/mL

Thats the thing, 1-34 was specified for men

Edit: 1-18 was specified for men, not 34

What lab was this?

My mistake. On both labs, FSH was specified for men to be 1-18

LH on the second test was 1-34

If the lab ranges truly are significant, then FSH is merely low normal.

I had an ultrasound done, for the left teste has been aching a lot in the past few days.

Labs to be done:
Thyroglobulin AB, TPO AB, Lupus, rT3

Any other important ones?

I have the labs

Lupus Anticoag Prof

Pt 12.9 (10.3-12.8) seconds
INR 1.2
APTT 35 (26 to 36)seconds
DRVVT SCRN RATIO .9 (0.0-1.1)

Interpretation (included) No evidence of a lupus-like anticoagulant based on results of PT, APTT, DRVVT. Interpretation not reviewed by physician.

Thyroperoxidase AB
Thyroperoxidase A <.3 (reference <9.0)
Thryoglobulin AB <20 (reference <116)
TSI <1.0 (reference <1.3)

Who ordered this test?

To help evaluate a prolonged partial thromboplastin time (PTT) and/or a thrombotic episode, to help determine the cause of recurrent miscarriages, and as part of an evaluation for antiphospholipid syndrome; the tests are not used to diagnose systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)"

Thyroid AB look good.

What did they say about your ultrasound?

Ultrasound showed minor varicocele, but no other abnormalities.

I had lupus written on the lab sheet and the lab chose the tests.

Because of the variation between TT 209 and 315, a retest was done.

3/16/13

TT 329 300-950
FT 13 9-30
FSH 7.25 1-8 or 1.4-18.1
LH 4.36 1.5-34.6
SHBG 16 10-57

Am I correct in believing the TT is a concern? I have been looking for studies and guidelines to back my request for HCG. The one Tuna posted is great, and Cleveland Clinic considers 250-350 borderline hypogonadal. However, the majority of guidelines consider anything above 300 nonhypogonadal.

Your total testosterone is lower then mine and im on trt… although my free test is below normal almost every time i test… This anti-depression shit is a load of crap… You’re 16 your TT should be at its peak right now I would think… Your doctor is a quack…

Your thyroid is fine. People here seem to jump on the ‘omg thyroid is bad TSH is in the middle of the range’ bandwagon and doctors, correctly, don’t do it. Now them telling you that your testosterone is fine…for a 16 year old…is totally ridiculous. You most likely need LH to just be raised…you could do this with clomid or hcg (which mimics lh…) . You will have a difficult time having a doctor prescribe either to you unless you are lucky (the medical establishment is very ignorant on such issues)…

Thanks to both of you for the replies

Receptor: Theres a lot of conflicting information out there, but heres one from pubmed

It considers a 3.5 and beyond to be subclinical, and most of these tend to seem conservative. Theres always that study going around indicating problems with over a 2. My temperature has become much more consistent and higher after the iodine though. Hopefully that fixed it.

iw84aces Out of curiosity, what was your TT before treatment, and were there any symptoms that got your point through to the doctor?

Just on the Klinefelter’s issue, if you have normal sized testicles for an adult that is (anything above 15 mL), there is an overwhelming chance that you do not have Klinefelter’s.

Also, you can do a Barr Body test (tests for an extra, heterochromatic X chromosome) or a sperm test (most people w/ KS show azoospermia) instead of the costly karyotype.

I think it’s worth trying out an active lifestyle before going on TRT. Turn off the cellphone, put away the Playstation, and stop watching porn. Sorry to say this but kids today do not have a life ANYTHING like the people did that are reminiscing about their vigor as a youth. Hell, the internet wasn’t invented until I was 21 and nobody owned a cellphone til I was about 25. Not only that but I was a VERY active kid. Very aggressive with sports and did martial arts 3 night/wk for 4 years. I don’t remember being energetic AT ALL as a teenager!
