Just one more week of this set-up. I normally do rack pulls, but this very nice young lady was waiting on the rack, so I skipped them after deads. I had some energy after my light walk on the treadmill, so I threw in some plate lifts.
One of our volunteers at work owns a very nice gym with her husband. It’s in a town about 50 miles from where I live. Out of the blue she asked me when my next meet was. I told her and she said they want to sponsor me. I thought that was pretty cool, and a great way to save a couple hundred bucks.
Farmer’s Carry:

Overhead Plate Carry:

Today was my monthly pick up heavy stuff day. It was not too bad, considering I had four hours of sleep. I got home from work at 0200 and my mother called at 0630 to say my father could not stand up from the crapper. I woke up and drove to their house. I’m clearly stronger than my mom, so I was able to lift him up. I then figured that I was up, so I might as well workout.
A former workout partner did that a lot with his father until they put him in a nursing home. The stories… He and I both agreed we’d do anything to keep that from happening to each of us.
I here ya. My dad is one of those guys who stopped doing anything once he retired. I think that is what caused some of his issues. I hit the gym to hopefully never be in that condition.
Squats:
135 x 10, 225 x 5, 275 x 3, 315 x 1, 350 x 5, 380 x 5, 420 x 5, 340 x 10
Leg Extensions:
4 sets x 10 reps x 200
That’s all I had time for. I had to run to my parent’s home to help load my dad up in the car. He has a doctor appointment this morning, and we are hoping to get him admitted to the hospital. He fell again last night, and I had to go over there to pick him up again. Just last week he mowed the lawn, so something is up.
Deload Bench:
135 x 10, 185 x 3, 225 x 1, 245 x 1
3 sets x 5 reps x 225
Treadmill:
10 minutes / 96 calories
Not much going on here today. I was set to lift super heavy. I even took my boards with me for board presses. I purchased new gear, and put it on today. The reinforced collar was really tight. I got under 315 but I could not get my hands wide enough. If I had more time I would have forced it more, to stretch it out. It’s a work night, so I bagged it so I can go home and get some sleep. I’ll push it next week. A deload was needed anyway.
Deficit Deadlifts (week 8 of 8):
135 x 10, 185 x 3, 225 x 2, 275 x 1, 360 x 1, 390 x 1, 460 x 1, 445 x 0, 415 x 1, 370 x 3
Rack Pulls:
365 x 5
410 x 5
445 x 3
505 x 2
Seated Leg Curls:
4 sets x 12 reps x 110
This was the final week of deficit deads. I think I will start with this next week from the floor. I’m not sure what the hell happened at 445. I think someone screwed the bar to the floor.
My back continues to bother me. It seized up again at 460. I go the doctor on Thursday. They have a new clinic there with resident doctors who are specializing in such things. Hopefully this will do the trick.
Good luck with your dad. Mine is 77 and has to be pushing 300 pounds at 5’9". I gave up (sadly) trying to help him a few years ago. My mother insists on putting the both of them on Weight Watchers and other similar crap for 3-4 days before they give up and head to the nearest hog trough.
sen_say I am in a similar situation. My dad will be going to a nursing home for rehab tomorrow. I talked to them both about water walking or something similar once he gets out. It’s like talking to a wall. I work really hard on myself to not be in that position one day. My wife and I have talked several times about being in our 80s and still attending powerlifting meets.
