Glad to see some people liked the question. I was also wondering how well your general training (strength, cardio, technique, diet) lined up towards your Olympic dream (even if you’ll never be at that level).
I also meant to ask about individual sports as opposed to team sports … but whatever.
To answer my own question, for myself:
Judo and weightlifting are close, with judo getting the win. I’d want to be in any of the upper, limited weightclasses. Since I’ve never done any track & field, the idea of training for and winning a decathalon is quite enticing.
If I were considering summer team sports … there is one and only one … volleyball. Of course, I’d need to be a defensive specialist like Eric Sato to even get on the team … that or grow about 6 inches.
I’m really not a fan of most winter sports. I do love to play hockey but it’s a team sport. For individuals … maybe the biathalon (shooting is pretty snazzy) … or perhaps one of the technical downhill skiing events … not the sit back and rocket type!
Regards,
Mark

Skeleton. The training seems to involve a lot of whiskey.

Same with curling.
Since they dropped poetry, it would have to be foil.
Boxing. I just love that sport.

Yeah, the pads and shit are wussy, but it’s still beating the piss out of another. I like boxing in all it’s forms.
Synchronised swimming. What can I say, I have beautiful toes.
The next summer Olympics is going to feature
BMX (bicycle motocross) racing as an official sport.
I raced during the 80’s as a teen and did very well.
I could now race in the 35 and over class (if they have it). I get butterflies thinking about that possibility! The Olympics! we’ll see…

Ok, on that question, my supplemental training is putting me in the right direction. I wish I was back in Pittsburgh (or any where else with great coaching and a good bunch of fellas to train with) to be able to actually get the Judo itself inline with where it needs to be. We’ll see how far I can take it.
Summer - Weighlifting or 100m. To be either the strongest or fastest man would be cool.
Winter - The downhill or ski jumping for the speed rush.
I want to burrow under the mats, leaving only my nose and mouth exposed, for the women’s pole vault. Happy landings baby!
Winter - Ice Hockey
Summer - Baseball
Winter - Curling
Summer - Shuffleboard
T-Minus not too many more moons for the realization of my Olympic dream!
I’ve been playing field hockey for almost 9 years and it has taken me to amazing corners of the world, allowed me to become a coach and more active member of my community.
Having just completed my first year out of Junior National eligibility (now that I’m over 21), I’m training (literally, everyday) as a development player for out national team.
I’m working hard for some 2012 Olympic action (read:lifting heavy, running hard, and playing harder in the meantime)!
Weightlifting, of course.
Summer
in order:
Men’s Single Sculls (Rowing)
Men’s Eight (Rowing)
Decathlon (Track)
400m (Track)
Winter
Speed Skating 1500m
4 man Bobsled
Ski Jumping 120m Hill
Biathlon (that shit is just crazy)

Baseball and Softball are no longer Olympic Sports as of the 2012 games. Anti-American B.S. by the IOC for sure, they didn’t even name replacement sports !!
Here’s a question: why isn’t Rugby in the Olympics? That would be like a Second World Cup in an even numbered year.
