I have a younger cousin who is trying to get in shape for the military. He is pretty fat like me and originally wanted to do the wendler bodyweight template but he can only manage a handful of press ups and like 1 pull-up.
I am wondering what template i should recommend to him. His goal is to build up to the bodyweight template.
For the push-ups, have his hands up on a bench so he can get the reps in. Over time, reduce the height. For the chin-ups (palms facing in, not out), use assistance - either bands, you supporting his ankles, or a counterbalance machine (standing with heels, not toes, on the assist bar. It effects the angle of pull).
Losing weight, endurance running and calisthenics will benefit him a lot as well.
