WTF, CHINA!!??

Image of the Day: 62-mile-long traffic jam
traffic lasting for nine days, with drivers living off food they’ve bought from road-side stalls that have quadrupled their prices as cars wait in a procession that spans 62 miles. Yeah, it’s happening in China right now.

The congestion apparently started to build up on August 14th, when several trucks carrying heavy cargo to the nation’s capital began to slow things down. Slow it down enough, apparently, that road construction five days later on the Beijing-Tibet expressway ground things to a halt.

Drivers have been encouraged to use detours rather than enter the crawl, but some folks see that as increasing the cost of travel by having them go out of their way. They’d much rather just pull up to the pile and wait.
There is no way in hell I am camping out in my car for days because of traffic.

yeah, I saw this in the news, pretty ridiculous. You would figure that they would have a way to fix it a lot quicker than they are. How bout closing the opposing lanes, opening a segment in the divider and letting people turn around? Or temporarilly (sp?) opening the other side to go the same way? definition of cluster-fuck

I question the sanity of anyone that chooses that.

An hour is bad enough for me.

Hey, it’s “progress”! Can you only imagine the congestion when every single adult Chinese citizen owns a car (like the 2000$ Tata Nano)? That traffic jam will look like a leisurely country drive in comparison.

China has over 1.3 billion people, but many don’t realize that the majority of the country is either sparsely populated or completely uninhabited. The population density is absolutely off the charts…

Haha! Beat me to it, PMPM!

One of the reasons I stopped paying rent for an office space and moved it into my home is because of the fucking headache of traffic.

profs avatar is epic!

Today my normal 30 minute commute took almost 90 minutes because cops blocked off several blocks due to a suspicious package. I can’t even imagine what I would do in that traffic jam.

This is more interesting than Darth Vader robbing a bank, I agree.

I hate when my 50 mins commute turns into 120, and I don’t even get to see the fender bender that caused it.

I try not to swear in case it was fatal.

I feel this is appropriate.

Wait, they’d rather get in a 62 mile traffic jam than take detours? That’s just dumb.

They said it could last 20 weeks or longer. I can’t even comprehend that. I mean, seriously, at this point in time, there are more humans alive than at any other point in history.

What the hell are we going to do in a couple hundred years when America looks like this and Chinese people are falling into the oceans? Live on the fucking moon?

…all to save money on the commute. They aren’t even Jewish!

I am more pissed off at the 45 billion pairs of chopsticks they use a year…which is still a lower number than the amount of billionaires in the country. Yeah I just read that…in a book.

Surely they’d figure out the money saved would go to buying food off the side of the road, lol!

They really need to start enforcing real population control. No one (in the world) needs to have more than 2-3 kids - especially if they can’t afford it.

I know you may or may not be hip to American TV, but have you ever heard of the Duggers?

My wife watches this show, that makes me want to shoot myself, 19 And Counting. This couple have 19 kids, all with J names.

Wait… They don’t realise that the extra money they’d have to spend to drive around is now wasted on food that’s 4x the price of food elsewhere?

I thought they were all smart?

Bird flu, swine flu, X you know why it all starts over there. Massive Pandemic will wipe out half the country.
