Wisey's Training Log - Strong for no reason

Well g’day.

Big day today in the city (Sydney is 90 minutes north). Took the Fam to the Sydney Aquarium, which is pretty rad, then a beaut lunch at a pub in Darling Harbour (you need to google these places USA guys!, Worth it).

In any case, 12000 steps, maybe 1000 of those with a 35kg, 9yo daughter on my shoulders, a plus side to having a weird strong dad she tells me. It’s a workout on its own at her weight these days. But, the days we have available for such “feats of strength” are of course numbered, so I enjoy them inspite of the discomfort.

Home about 6pm. Food. Water. Garage.

Squat:

Playing around with squats mostly was the goal here. And I had them moving very nicely. Felt a little wired…but judging by the niceness and symmetry, I just figured that’s what having two functional glutes feels like :joy::joy::joy:. Plenty left in it. No need.

Bench i moved my grip out a little as per my normal competition grip. Plenty left there also.

Deadlifts…these felt…Amazing. I failed 200kg only a couple of weeks ago and thought I was done. Turns out glutes are quite handy for this lift, too.

Openers starting to shape. Probably open squat at 140kg. It’s safe. This comp won’t be about pushing anything big. It’s about getting my ticket to the state champs in December. Also my first comp in 4 years…and my first comp as a Masters 1 lifter.

Bench I might open at 120kg Maybe.
Deadlift I’ll open at 210kg. Also safe.

Squat: 140/152.5/160
Bench: 120/130/135
Deadlift: 210/230/??? Might be a party pull, might be a pass. Lol. The second attempts will give 512.5kg.

My best Sanctioned Comp total is 552.5kg. My best Non sanctioned is 585kg…
I’d like to beat both in December. Let’s get there first.

I also went to the little zoo on the harbor that was definitely for little kids… by myself. They still let me pet the koalas.

Ahh yeah. The Wildlife Park. Yeah it’s a just a small one. Tooronga Zoo is over on the north side of the harbour, probably a good 40 minutes further.

The best zoos here though are not in Sydney, but out West - Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo (about a 5 hour drive) , and up North in Queensland…Much further :joy:. Think LA to Chicago.

But all are good!

Yeah I only had the day, so I did all the tourist stuff right there at the harbor. I wish I’d had more time.

I was just lucky to not get arrested being there with no kids!

Squat was good. Definitely feeling nicer and stronger than two days ago. The 150 was faster than the 140. I Might open with this. We’ll see.

Bench was a little heavy. But it’s getting better in the hands. This might be a second attempt…

Deadlifts were pretty good. Lower back still a little strained it turns out from that glute issue. But it’s ok for more weight than this. I might make this my second attempt also.

One more heavy session on Wednesday, then a taper Thursday. Then we go.

No deadlifts.

Bench felt a little fatugued. Squat, eh, not really. Felt good.

Weight was 104.5kg this morning. Everything on track for this Ridiculous 7 day Prep.

Just a few rehab exercises today. Decided Not to squat and bench.

Hoping to get some footage…but my mate who Was coming along has been brought down rather hard by a flu :joy:.

Might wrangle my sister into it. If I can pull her away from her rather busy social calendar :joy:

You can usually just ask some random to video for you, I find people are pretty friendly.

They are usually, yes. But I want more reliable camera people. :joy:. People that actually care entirely haha

104.3kg weighed in and ready to rock. In shorts and underwear, too. Looked dry and thirsty and leaner than I have in years :joy:
