Why Does Coconut Oil Give Me A Stomach Ache?

i’ve gone through the same issue, i can down 4 or 5 tbs of olive oil in a shake at once and feel perfectly fine but a few tbs of coconut oil had me vomiting one night. i don’t know why i reacted as i did but like some others have recommended, i just stay away from it now and only cook eggs or chicken with it

why would you wanna drink coconut oil? doesn’t it contain high levels of saturated fat? Wouldn’t that cause a cholesterol issue?

Isn’t olive oil better for you?

i think they’re about the same.

I’ve not thrown up, but coconut oil can do the same to me, give me a slight upset stomach/ bloated feeling. My guess is your upset stomach comes from the coconut oil being loaded with medium chain triglycerides. MCTs are known to cause some to become ill to their gut. A little bit of information from Dr. Eades sight about that.

“Tips & tricks for starting (or restarting) low-carb Pt II”

excerpt:

"As I said, you need to really crank up the fat intake to push yourself over the adaptation divide as quickly as possible. If you don?t like fatty cuts of meat, you can add a little medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) to your diet. MCT are absorbed more like carbohydrates and are used quickly by the body. They are almost never incorporated into the fat cells, so they burn quickly, and any extra that might be hanging around are converted to ketones. So, MCT will drive the ketone production process. And so will coconut oil if you prefer that.

You can find MCT oil at most health food or natural grocery stores. It has never bothered me, but some people can get a little nauseated if they take too much of it, so if you decide to give it a try, start out slowly. Or go with the coconut oil."

PLEASE don’t eat food that makes you vomit. The academic interest in ‘why’ does not mitigate the negative effect of throwing up. Just buy some olive oil, seriously
