Winter weather enters stage left…
Sequoia had a sign went entering stating: “Chains or 4x4 and snow tires. Carry Chains”
We arrived at a park ranger stop. He was checking chains. He took one look at our tires and Jeep, looked at us and gave us a big smile and a thumbs up. Sequoias are huge. Well worth the drive.
Next day (after a stay at a lovely campground) we made our way up to Yosemite. The snow was slightly thicker there, but that same sign was at the bottom: “Chains or 4x4 and snow tires. Carry Chains”. Made it to the ranger station, and this ranger had us roll down the window to ask: “Do you have chains?”
Us: No. We have snow tires.
Him: You need to carry chains. Go rent or buy some.
So. That didn’t work out. You mean to tell me that 2WD sedan with chains has less chance of getting stuck than my 35x12.5inch KO2 tires and 4WD? No sir, just no. All well, he was just doing his job. We were done with Cali anyway.
Spent the last few days in my home town. I grew up 45 minutes from Zion National Park. Seeing the park in the rain is an absolute treat. Those red rocks never get old.
Got the blood flowing and warmes up before work. Burpees hurt the back, I can’t imagine why sleeping on a camp pad and sitting in a Jeep didn’t heal by back… Looking like the actual gym will start next week. Still undecided on program, deadlifts are looking like they might not be an option for a while. Beginning to wonder of I herniated a disc.
Edit:

Well, barbell break will continue. Went down for the heavy set, lower back sent a flare of pain down my legs, and numbness followed. Sank right to the safeties. Tried 135, still painful, but a lot less numbness. Looks like I will be switching to leg press for a while.
Working off of this 2xweek template: How to Build Muscle Naturally: An Unexpected Plan
I had grand plans of 531, but heavy lifting with a bar is not in the cards for now. So I picked a random, flexible program to keep building.
Sorry to hear you are having issues with your back. Leg press is a great option to build some more quads and that is perfect for the transformation challenge. time to get busy.

My back was okay with RDLs! I am hoping they will actually help it recover.
Doctor’s office called the morning of my appointment to say the “provider will not be available”. Earliest time that worked with my schedule is three weeks away. So, diagnostics will have to wait some more.
Little sore today, and this helped losen things up.
It’s Friday folks. It is also a desert exploration weekend. I got a new 15deg sleeping bag. Time to test it out!
@Dani_Shugart It is a good new template! Liking it a lot so far, very different from what my last year looked like.
It does! If something by Hans Zimmer had started playing while in that canyon, it would not have been out of place.

Really like the leg press, I don’t know why I haven’t used it before. The heavy set causes little twinges in my back, so I decided to go nuts with reps on the light set.
Weekend recap, surprise snow storm and trail blazing!
Got out with the pack this morning, been pretty lazy this week. Lifting on the docket for tonight or tomorrow morning. We will see if Fri/Sat helps with the New Years crowd.
