When Did Life Start Imitating the Onion?

He didn’t know who Hitler was?

Yeah, riiiight!

You can still see lots of swastikas around Taiwan. It is an old sanskrit symbol that Buddhists now use (well for about 400 years) to mean unity and hope.

Still pretty weird to see it on the side of buildings and on maps showing where temples are.

hahahaha

Yah but thats a bit different than dotting the i in Hitler with it.

As an aside you read the new Reacher book?

Oh I’m not defending the guy at all…just adding my own cute swastika story.

Also I didn’t get the new Reacher book. They don’t come out here til they’re in paperback so I have about another year!
I’ll just have to watch the beautiful trailer for the wonderful new movie starring the brobdingnagian actor, Tom Cruise.

You got a mobi reader and an email you want to share for book discussion?

Sorry but I don’t have one of those.

I’m currently reading Cloud Atlas…have you read that?

I have not. It does look pretty interesting.

This is a nice ereader that will work on your computer.

http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/ProductDetailsReader.asp

I use that one. It will theoretically load on any electronic device that can be an ereader and work for you.

Mobi is the format Amazon uses. I pretty much only read electronically anymore though I thought I’d never make the jump a few years ago.

Can anyone explain to me how the story of Jack Reacher which centres around a 250-ish lbs 6’5" ex-MP with a somewhat bad attitude once pushed turns into Tom Cruise and Lee Child states that his size isn’t important?

His size is mentioned when fighting the likes of cornhuskers, ‘Giants’, frat boys and in one book it is said how he used the ‘swagger’ walk that college guys do but when a guy Reachers size do it, it is anything but funny.

So a little shit Tom Cruise taking the role of Jack Reacher is considered a good thing?

Lee Child has defended Cruise’s (self) casting by saying that Reacher’s size is metaphorical. I suppose that makes Reacher’s surname literal.

In other words.

“HA! Tom Cruise will boost sales, who cares if he aint the right guy”.

That is like casting Jackie Chan as Dirty harry. Seriously un-impressed.

In other news from the real world

There’s really a maple syrup reserve?

If you ever run low on gas while out shopping at Dictator Mall, you’re only a stone’s throw away from Saddam’s fill-n-go. Oil checks are free.

I don’t believe that height is the limiting factor. Just that Reacher is sort of a modern Conan…and people complain about Momoa not being big enough.

That’s exactly how I describe Reacher to friends that haven’t read him yet…as Conan. It’s also a great way of showing why Cruise shouldn’t play him. Should Cruise play Conan in a new movie?

Hey wait…does that mean in the last book , just like Conan eventually became king of Aquilonia, then Reacher will be President of America?
