What's the Name of This Exercise?

Question for all… Whats the name of the excerise that u see on every episode of “The Ultimate Fighter” in which the participant grabs a 45 lbs plate and moves it in circles around his head?? What muscles does it work? what is the point of it? why do they do it? sets? reps?

I wish i could better describe it but anyone who has seen this show will surely know what im talking about

It could be a prehab type exercise that they use for their rotator cuff or serratus?

This sounds like a plate raise done in a circle instead of just up and down.

If he just has his arms straight in front of him and is making a circle in what seems to be an effort to work out his front delts, then the exercise is complete shit.

Lots of pros with great results do a bunch of stupid shit that doesn’t do anything. I remember watching a video of Stallone training for Rocky 6. When he would do Leg Extensions he would also do a crunch to one side and then to the other. This obviously does nothing since the Leg Extension is a Quad Isolation exercise and not an Ab exercise. But it’s proof that people frequently do stuff in the gym that does not do a goddamn thing.

  1. Backburns with 1-lb weights
  2. Squats off a box higher than 30 inches
  3. New Jersey Roll Shrugs
  4. Rice Digs
  5. Cable Crossovers
  6. Reading on the Elliptical

This shit does nothing.

Who does external rotations with 45lb plates?

I think they are called halos.

football guys at my school do that. It’s odd.

it sounds like a shoulder mobility exercise called the halo.usually done with a kettlebell. loosens up the shoulders a treat. always do it as part of my warm up.

Theyre done with both arms overhead…if you need to use a 5 lb pink db for them, then thats fine too.
