What HDTV Do You Have?

Zoetrope.

Panasonic TH-50PZ77U

It’s phenomenal, blows away my mother’s 40" Sony Bravia LCD, especially for SD signal processing

Hey now nephorm. No need for name calling!

Samsung 42" DLP.

Anyone here have a 1080p set? I am curious if you think they are worth the high price tag, opposed to 720p sets.
I have a 54" Samsung LCD TV. It is 1080p.

We have HD cable and it is so freaking badass that there are times when I yell across the house “hey come check out this picture.”

The national geographic HD channel is nothing short of amazing on this set.

Go for a 46" 1080p from Samsung or Sony. Check Amazon for reviews. If you’re going to spend money on a new tv, you might as well future proof. Like Chewie said, HD content is amazing. It really is like looking out a freaking window sometimes. Sports look sick!

40" Sony Bravia S2500 720p/1080i LCD. Purchased it a year and a half ago for $1,300.

That was a great price then (the guy at Best Buy hooked me up saving me more than $400 that day - 12% off everything I purchased and another $200 cash off, plus free HDTV through the cable company for a year and free movies for a year).

I purchased the TV, LG upconvert DVD/CD player and all the wires that I needed. Ended up paying less than the original price of the TV with everything I bought thanks to all the discounts.

I haven’t had a reason to go with 1080p yet. It’ll be a while before it’s truly worth the difference. My picture looks awesome when playing HD movies and even playing regular DVD’s using the upconvert DVD player.

Samsung has a 1,000,000:1 contrast 50" Plasma thats 1080p. The clarity of it is just insane. If you were looking for a plasma around 50", I’d put money on it that its the best out there right now, period. I haven’t been blown away by a tv since I first saw HDTVs.

My mom has a 720p Panasonic 50" plasma. I believe its over 2 years old. Even now, the picture is still incredible and SD content is wonderful. I have yet to do anything 720p on it. The tv does not display HD content correctly and provides a windowed effect with a black frame around the desktop in windows. Its a limitation of the tv, not my video card. Moral of the story is, but what you want and also what you think you might use in the future. I think hooking computers up to TVs will be all the rage in 5 years. Who needs to drop 300-500 on a blu ray player? Get a blu ray drive for 130 & and a dvi to hdmi cable for 7 bucks. You’re all set.

The room I am in is about 15 x 25 & a 40" is about as large as it can handle. I think the 46" version of my tv would be a little too large as I am usually 8 to 12 feet from the tv.

I was trying to make a joke - it’s a piece of garbage.

This is a good TV, but that figure is only the dynamic contrast ratio, not the static contrast ratio.

There is a rumor among the tv companies that a price war is about to begin among the hdtv models. Just an insight, it is to be headed by Sony, hopefully companies will follow suit.

I have heard this too, and I know Sony has a new 46" Bravia coming out on June 1. I am excited.

I have a 41" Phillips ambilight 720p I bought a little over a year ago and got a fantastic deal (bestbuy friend got me discount+sale price). It had the best picture IMO for the ones in my price range. HDTV looks awesome on it and I have no regrets. Though I will probably buck up and get a 1080 maybe in a couple years, this works great for now.

I got into the HD game fairly early, about 6 or 7 years ago and have a Toshiba 42h81, a 42" rear-projection TV. The price was very reasonable for the times and it has served me very well.

My dad just bought a Sony Bravia 46" and it’s just kick ass. I may have to upgrade within the next year.

I know!

Ok I set the pana up yesterday when I got home from work, all I can say is WOW!
The tv tuned itself in and the pics from the ariel were great (a little too contrasty on default settings though). My brother in law (who has a 32" sony, 2 years old) was inmpressed. Then I put a Blu ray DVD on (Casino Royale) F*ckin’ Hell!.
Son is well impressed and more so when we started playing Tekken 5 on the PS3.
My wife said “its too big” a couple of times, but then at the end of the evening she looked at the old Toshiba 28" CRT and said “doesn’t it look weird and small?”.
TV from the Sky+ box is good too.

I had shortlisted the Samsung LE37 A656A along with the Pana 37LZD 800 (they’re both 1080p models), went to to local retailers to view them decided I liked the Pana more, got it from Amazon.
FWIW I view from about 8.5-9ft.
All in all I’m a happy dude!
37" was about the max for our living room

Yes, they are. I have a Phillips 42" 1080P set. Blu-Ray is amazing (I have a PS3 with only one game and rent Blu-Ray from Netflix).

Late to the party as usual.

Samsung 46" 720p DLP. I don’t have Bluray, so I haven’t seen any need for 1080p.

I have had it a year and all in all I am very happy with it. One Caveat of the DLP is hum from the fan. I didn’t find out until after my purchase that this is common.

I should be getting a Panasonic TX 37LZD800 today and I can’t wait! Its gonna be different from the 28CRT its replacing. Cant wait to see how the PS3 looks and Blu Ray of course, my son will also be trying the Xbox 360 (not an elite though). Anybody got the same model?
Got a Samsung 40 inch lcd 1080p. It was about 2000 and the picture is just incredible. I’m very happy with it.

It’s incredible with bluray, which I alos rent from netflix. Actions movie are out of this world, like Blackhawk Down and Tears of the Sun.
