I have looked at some of the westside articles on increasing your bench. Is there a way of sticking to those programs without using bands, chains and boards ??
Sure, you don’t need chains, bands, and boards to use conjugate periodization. You just want to rotate your movements every so often (whatever works for you). You can do rack lockouts, full bench presses, incline presses, decline presses, and change up the grip on each of those, wide, close, etc.
If you look at the history of Westside, they used just straight weight for a long time before boards, bands, and chains were introduced. They use those to help accommodate resistance and add variety, but the principles can be used without all that stuff. I trained using their conjugate method for quite a while in a garage gym with no frills and still made terrific gains.
Sure bro. Many of us in the Westside thread don’t have access to any implements and we’re gaining just fine. Like shadyniner said, just rotate your exercises every two to three weeks (or when you stop gaining) and you’ll be golden.
Although of the three, boards are the cheapest and easiest to get a hold of probably. Hell, find some scrap lumber and you just need a saw and some screws.
