West Side and HIIT

Just out of curiousity, instead of GPP work with West Side, could one do HIIT?

I’m looking into more strength training, but really don’t want to give up on my swimming (which I do HIIT style), which is a big childhood habit that can never die, y’know?

Or is HIIT and GPP practically the same thing?

I guess I should also note that my typical HIIT don’t go beyond 10 minutes due to extremely short rest periods as I typically do 10-12 sets of 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off, or 15 sets of 15 seconds on, 15 seconds off.
