Volume for Beginners

Hi CT

Does the importance of low volume hold true for newbies to lifting ? If they don’t yet have perfect technique or don’t know how to contract and feel the muscles properly (and the fact that the weights lifted will be low to start with) can/should they be doing a more traditional approach 3-4 sets of 8-12 before they go into advanced techniques with one all out set.

Thanks

I think you’ll want to keep your reps closer to the mid range as a beginner as well. Starting Strength for example uses sets of 5. I think the reason is that as a beginner your form will start to deteriorate with fatigue faster than someone who has experience and knows how to cope with the stress of high rep sets better.
