Vinny's Strongman Log II

9/1/18 - bw 222 had a big ass cheat meal yesterday so…lil heavy. Body comp has changed a bit, more vascularity, less fat in general, which is great.

Push Jerk (axle)
145x5,3,3
225x3,3
275x3
315x1
335x1 solid rep
335x1 major press out, need to find base better and make sure i get under it
335x1 easy rep, almost no press out
335x1, bad, but muscled it out. Starting to “feel” the weight here. Something that I like to do for heavy weights on lifts that require a lot of explosion/techniquee and don’t have much deliberation of conscious effort is work with 90%+ weights for singles as to basically get some kind of substantial TuT. I hate going into heavy presses and having to gamble if I can get it, because the only preface to the lift is the unrack, and that can get scary, because 350lbs being walked out on a front squat for me isn’t exactly fun, so knowing i’m gonna launch it over head is quite an undertaking, so I like to be as in control as possible.

rant

more singles…
335x1 super easy, wow. Only downside is I hurt my left pec minor somehow on the descent.
335x1 easiest so far, but having to shut it down due to pec.

I’m also bringing my left hand in on the unracking of the bar because for some reason, my left hand always pushes out like half inch once i walk out, and it gives me an unbalanced grip on the bar thus fucking up my press. It seemed to help make the press easier, since in the past I was failing press outs due to my right tricep seeming “weak” but only to realize my grip was being compromised without my knowledge.

Overhead Rack Lockouts
185x12
185x12
185x10
185x10 pec is fine on these

Curls
65x10
65x10
65x10
65x10
65x10

Laterals
x15
x15
x15 brutal, band laterals>actual weight

That looked like a lot of volume written down. How’s the pec feel after?

Feels like I did dumbbell fly’s with only my left arm lol. Not terribly sore, or very sore at all for that matter, but it’s…sore.

9/4/18 - bw 221

Log Clean and Press Circuit with Front Squat (2-3 min rest after log before fronts)
110x3/155x3
200x3/205x3
200x3/255x3
200x3/305x3
200x3/375x3
200x8 (clean once) /425x3 felt pretty heavy honestly, but 3 was solid, didn’t breakdown much or feel i’d miss at all.

Log Clean and Press (cleaned once)
250x3
250x5
250x5 very happy, this went so smoothly and easily
250x5, last set had to work for, fatigue and i put on wrist wraps which i normally do not like for log, i just feel like it fucks with my grip, and…it did. I tried it just because my wrist was starting to hurt from front squats, and I didnt think the cons out weighed the pros but they did.

Front Plank
x60s
x60s
x50ish

Side Plank
x45s
x45s

Buddy !! Hope all is well

11/30/18 - Hm, welp. Been a loooong time! I’m not sure if I’m posting today again because I want to start tracking my lifts again, or I just miss keeping in touch with you guys. I’ll say both.

The last 3-4 months have basically been a blur for me, and I’ve only been able to look back with 20/20 as of recently. I guess I lost myself and became detached from who I was to put it lightly. I really, really don’t want to admit this, but for the sake of coming clean I will. I pretty much started using pain killers from previous injuries and/or leftovers from family members who had surgeries. There were tons. I remember seeing a bottle of oxy and, as someone who went his whole life nearly straight edge, it took a LOT from me to get myself to do this. I don’t know why, I guess I was so overwhelmed from life. I’d rather not get into it, as I already did maybe months back in a post, briefly.

Now, I don’t want to use any trigger words but I think I almost died, albeit my desensitization with pain and my fleeting ability to grasp the fragility of my life. I didn’t (maybe still don’t) give a fuck about what happens to me, just my family and friends, and I’m deeply sorry for that, even though I hid it so well. In this time, I was still training, just very lightly and pushing it when I felt my body let me. I’ve kinda tapered to where I am now. Lets get to that…

Fortunately I ran out of pills and I had the sense to shut my fucking face and get my head right. I am in no way comparing myself to those who chronically struggle with substance abuse, but I got a taste. Awful. It’s been months, maybe since September since the last time. I feel so much better mentally and emotionally from where I was months ago, and like I said, I didn’t realize just how bad it was until I looked back from a higher ground.

I’m certainly far from 100% and I have these weird bouts of…PTSD, snowballing anxiety, only present as of recently, though I cringe calling it that (PTSD). I’m so modest to myself I even thwart my problems. I don’t feel I deserve to complain.

Anyway, enough brooding. I’m more okay than I’ve been all year. Here’s some training and stuff updates:

I dieted down to 212 or maybe slightly less around late september and have began dieting to gain back since then and I’m already up to like 227-229. Strength has rocketed the fuck back on everything besides deadlift, as I cannot train it over 315 or my back explodes. My back is still fucked, but it seems to be less so than last time I posted. I think I have this under control…lol

Some recent lifts this month include…

275x3 strict overhead which is the most I’ve done with that weight since pre-nationals 17’.
405x14 Back squat, PR in life
365x20 Back squat…done today. (this actually really hurt my back lmao, like on rep 10 I was steeped deeply in regret but that’s okay. you live and you…yeah.)

Okay! Hope you’re all doing vastly better than myself. Thanks for checking in while I was gone. Much love <3

Thanks for sharing Vinny, and glad you’re on the mend. That sounds like a scary road you were on, and unfortunately I can’t relate enough to offer much help.

Glad to have you back.

Back is super tight and triggered from the 365x20 squat. Almost reinjured, basically. Bittersweet since that squat set was fucking awesome to have hit, so I’ll take the consequences.

I’m pressing twice a week currently. Day 1 is overhead, Day 2 is front/back squat, Day 3 is Back isolation/deadlift/bench. My pec has always given me issues but I’m working on bringing my bench back.
