The true way to quantify core work.

2/22/18 - Bw 223, I had an itch to deadlift, as I feel like i haven’t been doing jack shit lately.

Deadlift (conventional)
135x5,5,5
225x5,5
315x3,3
405x5,5
500x5 double overhand, felt okay

So, as far as my calf recovery goes, it’s so-so. For some strange reason, my right calf (opposite of one injured) feels precarious now. It feels overworked or something. Like on the verge of cramping at any moment.

Bent Row/GM Circuit (3 min rest between rounds)
135x15/135x15
135x15/135x15
185x15/185x15
185x15/185x15
185x15/185x15 brutal

Perhaps some subconscious over-compensation going on that has your other calf feeling pretty poorly.

Hurt my left knee last year, and right around when it started feeling better my right one started giving me problems, but definitely due to carrying my body on the one leg.

Any idea why your calf tore?

I am going to go work my calves tomorrow in your memory, I’ll be damned if those little leaches go out on me too.

i swear every time i train calves they cramp up, not an excuse at all bruhh

A tendon in my left foot tries to do that sometimes, I choose to blame my shitty calves on that (that and high insertion points on my calves which both make them look smaller and harder to work because my achilles tendon wants to do all of the work).

Totally not because I chronically neglect my calves, that can’t have anything to do with it.

@mr.v3lv3t For sure that’s what it is man. Thanks for sharing the anecdote.

@Destrength No idea. Everything I was doing up until then felt fine. No aches, no pains. I had a beastly front squat workout the day of though…not sure what the fuck that means. Thank you for doing calves in my memory dude. I will flex my calves punctually on the hour at every hour in homage.

@duketheslaya :frowning: Yeah I’m a wimp.

I’ve got high insertions too. It’s weird, I’ve flipped that tire so many times before. It was the first implement for strongman that I got, and it was around 2012 when I got it. I’m very good on that tire and, while it’s a pretty heavy tire, it’s not THAT heavy. A big athletic dude who barely lifts might be able to flip it once. Idk.

Here you go man, 365x21

Might’ve been aggravated from front squats (I get weird ankle shit from hitting them hard if my calf to front squat ratio gets below a very amount), or something weird from day to day stuff then when you had to triple extend on something the already partially torn or inflammed muscle/tendon just gave up on life.

I once strained a pec from like a close grip floor press at like 50% of my max for it. That movement never felt right after that. Basically I am saying you could’ve just had something already happen to set the muscle/tendon up for it then the weirdest thing like going through a certain range of motion with even a small weight was too much. Eliot Hulse (I think it was him) separated his bicep from his bicep tendon pulling a weed out of the ground.

Weird shit happens.

@Destrength Yeah man, that sounds spot on. And I can relate exactly to the pec ordeal. I tore is twice moderately due to my twisted ass body. My right shoulder draws up so much and no matter what position I put it in, it hurts. I can bench close grip kinda heavy which is completely fine to me.

I put a small amount of tacky on my hands for the bigger stone. It honestly felt like a toy but it got great blood work in with high reps. A bit too tired from fronts to get more volume in but it still went well.
