Varying Your Primary Exercises in Different Stages of Cycle

With regards to using singles, unless it’s only the last few weeks before a meet it might not work too well if you don’t include some volume work and assistance exercises (as Westside does). Mike Tuchscherer did an experiment (on himself, fortunately) leading up to IPF worlds a few years ago where he did almost exclusively singles. His lifts all went down and he had a shitty performance. He said that Dietmar Wolf (Norwegian head coach) asked him what happen and laughed when Mike responded that he did singles. Singles definitely have their place in training, but they are only one part of it.

Performing singles exclusive (as Tuchschere) found out won’t get it done.

Secondly, Mike Tuchschere apparently over trained with his singles.
