US Winding Down in Iraq?

BAGHDAD - Iraqi and U.S. negotiators have completed a draft security agreement that would see American troops leave Iraqi cities as soon as June 30, Iraqi and American officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Interesting. And this is the way it should be - quiet, unassuming, don’t make it like a used car blowout sale.

Take it step by methodical step, keep the hype down to a minimum. And never, never telegraph the plan and end date to the enemy.

Which one would that be? You don’t think they’ll notice the planes taking off? Or are they going to leave them there?

They may get suspicious when they notice a bunch of empty buildings…oh wait…no one is going anywhere.

The point is that it isn’t smart to highlight benchmarks for departure, nor do large symbolic displays of power transference - it makes transition smoother and avoids giving part of your playbook to the enemy.

Mostly common sense - so no surprise it had to be explained to you.

“But…but…Rothbard said on page seventeen that…that…I have it right here…”

Oh, someone is going somewhere - and you’d know this if you could read beyond one website.

If it works out, that will probably fuck Obama pretty good. Since that’s the biggest wave he’s been riding. Aside from the politics, GOOD, I want out as soon as possible, we have bigger fish to fry.

Actually, give them the wrong date, make it look like we’re leaving, then pop a cap in their asses as they come out of the woodwork.

Yup. We got Saddam out of power, we have semi-reasonable people in charge in a region full of crazies. Things are as stable as they are going to get. Time to GTFO.

Impossible.

How can we continue to steal all that oil if we don’t have a bunch of troops on the ground to keep the order by randomly killing thousands of civilians?

Clearly that savant Bush is fooling us all with his idiotic geniusness.

Yeah, we’re stealing it, that’s why we pay $120 per barrel…All that theft, that what it was.

Not to worry … once Bush leaves office, he and Cheney and Rove (maybe Tom Delay too if he can get back in time from instigating the Russian invasion of Georgia) will be able to focus full time on getting all the oil for Haliburton …

actually after reading that post about Diebold … maybe Rove should be held in reserve to hack all the voting machines …

There’s a lot of conspiracies and only a limited supply of evil Bush advisors so we have to be strategic on who we put where.

Actually, Bush was correct back in June '03 when he said “Mission Accomplished” (remember… Bush in full flyboy uniform complete with helmet while actually NOT having flown the plane onto the carrier). The Iraq gov was toppled, Saddam dethroned, so we should have gotten the hell out back then. But apparently “victory” and “occupation” don’t share the same meaning.

well … I can’t remember the specific aircraft but it was a combat aircraft and they stick a helmet and flightsuit on ANYONE in that situation. Even the idiot journalists who get PR flights.

And Bush trained, qualified in and flew F-106s. That’s a very impressive aircraft. So I have not doubt he was on the stick on the carrier landing for quite a bit of the flight if not the landing itself.

You’re barking up the wrong tree on this one IronDwarf.

The political astuteness of the PR stunt may have been questionable but his wearing a helmet and his flying credentials are not … at least not in my book.
