Under 200 Bodywt, Over 1200 Total?

Sittin at 190 currently. Started running 5/3/1 January 1st and am seeing great results. I am shooting for 540/360/540 in July at 181lbs, whatever I can do to total 1400 raw (belt only). My rep maxes with 5/3/1 are going well, hope to see a good transition to 1rm.

in my last competition i was a 198, im going 220 for my next one. but at 198 i hit 445/300/475 for a 1230 total. at 220 im hoping to bust 1300 in march. liquidmercury, you compete USAPL?

LiquidMercury, what meet are you doing in April. Is it the SPF Georgia State meet in Peachtree City?
Sure am. April 2nd. You gonna be there?
I won’t be competing at that meet (already have one scheduled for the following weekend) but one of my teammates is lifting so I’ll probably go to help him out. Now that I know one of my fellow T-Nationers is going, I definitely want to check it out.

I haven’t done a meet yet but I like the USAPL rules for Raw and the fact that it’s tested and that it’s a bigger federation so that’s the one I’d like to compete most in. I’m doing my first meet which is SPF, April 2nd mainly for the experience but they allow knee wraps which I will not be using.

Well I’ll be there and it’ll be my first meet. If you’re goin feel free to tell me not to be an idiot and possibly give me a lift off?

I did 1135 at 148 23 years ago, haha! I have shoulder issues so I don’t three lift meet anymore.

But 1200 is pretty doable raw , 400, 300, 500 is pretty doable at 198.

I am 24 years old and have a 1205 total. 495 dead, 425 squat, and a 285 bench. All with just a belt. Weigh in at about 195.

Been Training since i was 16 (not very seriously). Only been training for about the last 2 years seriously. Been Running 5/3/1, with deload weeks being 10+ rep record weeks. I have found that a full deload after only 3 weeks is way to soon for me.

My diet is pretty shitty… I was trying to eat about 3000 cals a day. It didnt always happen. Its definatly the weak link. It was a lot of subway.

Dropped down to about 2000 cals per day. I am trying to loose about 15 pounds and keep all these lifts.

I have been stuck at that bench for a LONG time. My goal is to bring that up to 315.

I’m thinking we need an under 200 lb group thread and keep each others progress updated.

Id 2nd that.

There we go.

I’ve got a best of 1430 @181 and 1505 @192 (540/380/585).

I’ve run Smolov squat a few times, Coan deadlift a few times, some Westside when I first started competing. Now, I do my own thing taking bits from here and there.

Hope to go 575/400/615 in May.

Those are fantastic numbers, above elite and would put you in the top 5 rankings in 2010 at 181.
The open federation record for 181 in 100% Raw is 1490, so I hope you are competing regularly which your avatar suggests you are. Excellent job, keep up the good work.

I hit 1205 raw at 190 lbs in my first meet when I was 19. I never competed raw when I was at my peak (which is a regret of mine) but it would have been in the high 1500’s at 198 when I was at my best.

I haven’t competed but I’ll put my training numbers out there. I’ve been following Wendler’s 5/3/1 for 6 months now. Before that I was arsing around with different stuff for a couple of years but never lifting heavy or consistently really. I was playing too much hurling to be bothered. I’ve given up that sport now so I’ve focused my attention on this.

30 yrs old, 5’10", 179 lbs.
Estimated maximums currently at 385/205/430 for a 1020 lbs total.

Plenty of room for improvement given some of the numbers already posted here.

20 Years Old

Current Bodyweight: 144.8 as of posting

All raw
Bench: Hit 305 touch and go on Tuesday
Deadlift: Hit 500 before winter break so around the week of December 14; I pull sumo
Squat: Haven’t maxed this since before getting onto the Hepburn training method, it was at 375 in November

These are all gym lifts, I have never competed in a competition in my adult years. I plan to go to one sometime this semester if school and work permit.

I have some videos of my deadlift lying somewhere around this site along with a log when I was pulling 430ish. My goal is to compete in the 148lb weight class sometime around March or the summer. I currently do not have the time to jump into a competition, I’d really love to get my numbers solidified at a meet.

Edit: I’ll pull tomorrow and get a video up here asap as I want to see where my max is at and how my form looks on camera

26 years old… getting back to PL… BW 200 (210 if i really overeat for some time:) 5’8"… did 1700 something total equpped IPF when I was 20 at 181, stopped competing after that… now I do it raw… 600 squat, 460 bench… dont know how much can pull though… pulled 550, but it aint a max, I just did it… I’m preparing for bench only meet, and since its my best lift, I’m considering being a specialist… I’ll do squats in training only, I rarely pull now…

1200 is more than achieavable at that BW

What were your thoughts on smolov and coan?

I benefited from both and continue to use both in my meet prep.

Coan is aggressive, it starts off okay but the jumps are large especially towards the end of the program. Do not be to greedy when deciding on a goal weight. I feel like Coan has strengthened my low back a great deal and improved my grip. You will walk/hobble out of the gym with a tight back and raw hands. I pull conventional, btw. I use no straps and push the accessories. My current deadlift training has evolved from Coan using a similar setup and volume, altering the exercises to suit my sticking point. IMO, the Coan routine as written will help your pull off the floor.

My first time through Smolov, I did the base and intense with my competition squat. I went from 465 to 515. (old log, page 1-4 http://tnation.T-Nation.com/hub/mahwah#myLogs/thread//0 ) Second time I used a safety bar due to a nagging shoulder issue. I figured if I couldn’t press, I may as well hammer on my squat. Got 30 pounds, 440 to 470 with SSB. I just finished my third time through, again with the safety bar. 470 to 510.

I feel Smolov will absolutely tighten up your technique. It will also beat you up, you have to have some self care (massage, foam roll, stretching, etc.). My first go I dealt with aches nearly the entire time, and if my memory serves me, I didn’t have a whole lot to give to anything else. Smolov with the SSB will improve leg drive and problems with losing the squat forward.

tl;dr - Coan, do it. Smolov, do it. Not at the same time.

Thanks for the insight. Right now I’m running through a few waves of westside but I may indeed give coan than smolov a try after my first meet.
