They have lived this many years without knowledge of modern civilization I think they’ll be alright…
Actually they are perfectly aware of the existence of our modern civilisation, they just avoid it because they know if not they are screwed.
Some tribes do their best remaining uncontacting because they know what happened to the others…
Details are scant here (that’s the whole point of an uncontacted tribe), so there’s not much to discuss. Well, unless you’re in the “God’s gift” and “spreading freedom” crowd.
So here’s random information:
The tribesmen painted themselves up after the first pass of the helicopter.
During World War II, aviators experienced the effects of cargo cult beliefs. From the Wiki:
In attempts to get cargo to fall by parachute or land in planes or ships again, islanders imitated the same practices they had seen the soldiers, sailors, and airmen use. They carved headphones from wood and wore them while sitting in fabricated control towers. They waved the landing signals while standing on the runways. They lit signal fires and torches to light up runways and lighthouses. The cult members thought that the foreigners had some special connection to the deities and ancestors of the natives, who were the only beings powerful enough to produce such riches.
In a form of sympathetic magic, many built life-size replicas of airplanes out of straw and created new military-style landing strips, hoping to attract more airplanes. Ultimately, although these practices did not bring about the return of the airplanes that brought such marvelous cargo during the war, they did have the effect of eradicating most of the religious practices that had existed prior to the war.
Over the last seventy-five years most cargo cults have disappeared. Yet, the John Frum cult is still active on the island of Tanna, Vanuatu.

I saw this on TV about an hour ago, one lady commenting on it said that “they look like oompa loompas!”.
I think we all know how this is going to end…

i think this is pretty cool though. i wonder if theres any plan to study them.
Anally probe them perhaps?
now youre thinking.
but no, i meant like idk maybe observing them but thatd be hard since they know the forest so well and would probaly kill anyone watching and anyone going would probaly contaminate them.

Lixy, I’ve cracked plenty. That’s not an answer, it’s just a sidestep.
It was an answer. It was probably better than mine…which is to ask when in history there has been an undiscovered “tribe” of people who were discovered by “civilization”…yet NOT taken advantage of in some way.
It was a response, X, but not an answer to a purposely specific question. I wanted to hear something with some substance. Telling someone to “open a history book” is an easy catch-all response - not what I was looking for.
Lildave - why is it so obvious that they have “been fine” for thousands of years? I wouldn’t call merely surviving being “fine” and so far that’s all I can say about them - that they’ve survived. Their way of life may consist of ritual murder and sacrifice for all you know. Right?
Lixy. One thing I do know is that history has shown that “uncivilized” groups such as these become modernized, their crime and murder rates plummet. The evidence that we do have suggests this is a universal phenomenon.
red04, I’m sure that’s probably true. But the trend holds true even if we neglect all slave-based societies…
But I appreciate the comment because it feels good to hear someone from Ohio who is able to make a clever comment about slavery. I have heard some stories from a friend from Ohio involving some serious ignorance and racism over there.
Who is to say they wouldn’t take advantage of vaccinations, antibiotics, and I don’t know, a deep well for drinking water.
Or, maybe lessons in agriculture in irrigation. I don’t think anyone is suggesting they be shipped out on some slave boat. We need some researchers sent there asap!
