Took a couple impromptu days off because I was tired and unmotivated and had a sandy vagina, then came in tonight and hit this after hitting a 135x2 snatch (both of these were PRs) and doing some snatch pulls. Pretty stoked, haven’t hit a PR double in a long time. Platform was a touch slippy.
If anybody sees anything I’m all ears, but mostly I’m just sharing because I’m stoked haha. I get worried about getting called on intentionally oscillating the bar when I take a breath before the jerk, but so far I’ve never gotten a red light for it.

Very long stance on the jerk. It’s quite scary actually, you slipped… But pretty nice work over all.
crazy long split and slippery platform. I’d be afraid to lift there. But yeah, that looked awesome and easy. Go you Jonty.
If you can pause it after I split but before my foot slips it looks a little less crazy, but I do tend towards a longer split as the weights get heavier. And that is actually the first time I’ve slipped like that on that platform in a long time.

Solid man. Congrats.
I’d focus on trying to catch the bounce more. It’ll save you more energy but you being able to Jerk it after 2 Cn means it’s LIGHTWEIGHT for you
Koing
I’ve been told a couple times I need to catch the bounce better, it’s just not something that happens for me when things get heavy. Maybe I’ll put a little more time and effort into it in a couple months.
Haha it sure doesn’t feel like lightweight. My jerk has just always been stronger than my clean. When I’m in half decent training shape I can jerk whatever I can stand up with.

How tall are you and what class do you compete in?
I’m 5’11, compete in the 105s. The all black attire is very slimming on me.
nkklllll wrote:
How long have you been lifting?
About five years. I would like to be further ahead than I am now, but I definitely spent some time spinning my wheels and/or learning about what makes me successful. Also I can be real fucking lazy sometimes.

Yes work on catching the bounce. It saves you energy but again nothing major as you Cn it twice then Jerked it. Booyah!
Strong Jerk - you mofo!
I’m working on my rack jerks. No jerk boxes here. What have you jerked from racks? My best was 147 but I did 125 for a double last week so I was happy with that
Good lifts. Re catching the bounce, what worked for me was getting my weight forward in my feet ie from heel to mid foot/base of toes and exaggerating shoulders over from start and throughout pull. Went from a very tough 145kg @94 to an easy 152.5 very quickly, with the same front squat of 162.5. It allowed me to finish more upright rather than back, which meant I was in line with/under the bar (and could get my shoulders to it sooner) not slightly behind it waiting for it to crash down etc.

I’ve only ever done jerks from the racks at the end of a long workout when I was really fatigued, never really pushed them or maxed out on them, and they’ve only been in the program a handful of times. If I was fresh and just went in to do jerks from the racks, who knows, I’ve just never really seen the need to find out. When I have done them, I’ve used plyo boxes stacked up as high as need be, so long as they weren’t in use. I’m not a great overhead presser relative to my jerks so lowering the bar to my shoulders can get iffy at heavier weights, if I can’t set up something to drop the bar onto I probably won’t do them.

Interesting. For myself, I’ve generally found that finishing higher and tighter with the bar further back over my base helps me get under more weight. I may also be lacking the aggressive finish to the pull under to properly meet the bar in a tight rack position; just had a comp on the weekend where one of the coaches gave me flack for a loose back on my cleans, and I missed standing up with 183 because I had some banana back going on and I couldn’t muscle through it.
Thanks for the tip though, it’s something I will be ruminating on, though I’m unlikely to make any big changes to my lifts until after nationals.

No Jerk Boxes and no way to lower the bar apart from the old fashion way. I’m starting to enjoy lowering the bar and Jerking it again. Definitely the most brutal exercise for me. I fail most of my heavy CJ on the Jerk so I’m going to be hammering rack Jerks until the end of time.
The Cn. Was it a one off? If it was then it isn’t so bad and yes the way you catch the Cn makes or breaks the Cn recovery. I’ve gotten up with 160 as if it was NOTHING when caught properly, then I’ve gotten buried under 145-155-160 if I caught it wrong. Rounded back catch is pretty much zero chance of getting up unless you already have momentum and your on the way up already.

I definitely don’t enjoy lowering the bar and jerking it again. Always feels like I’m limited by my ability to lower the bar back down, as my press isn’t that good compared to my jerk.

I’m not sure I’d call it a one off, but it’s not a common thing, and I was just a little lackadaisical on the competition platform that day when it happened. Regardless, it’s something I am going to be very aware of as I prep for nationals over the coming weeks. Maybe do some heavier rows too.

Thanks. Should’ve been good for more if I’d had my shit a little more together, but I guess I’m just going to have to hit those numbers at nats.

It’s just practice lowering the bar down. Not so much lower it down, but more like lower a tad then drop it but cushion it with your body by bending at the knees.
I"ve MP 90 @ 85.7kg a couple of months back when I was pressing once a week. I’ve been really lax on it but I’ll try and add them back in.
PC and paused jerk doubles today.
If it doesn’t happen often then it’s no biggie imo.

Oh, I know. I’ve gotten much better at it, but I still hate it, and when things get heavy the bar starts to crash down and it doesn’t feel good. Maybe I just need more practice.

It’s been years since I did a strict press, and I’m not sure I ever went over 80, haha. Benched 315 pounds last summer on a challenge though.

The lowering will get easier with time. A few years ago little bro was about 74kg and he was PJ 105 for 3’s and he lowers them fine. But he’s gotten use to it over the years. I’m getting better at lowering them well but they are definitely not effortless
I BP 150kg a few months back. I say BP as it was more like touch my internal organs and suddenly spring boards off my body and I lock it out monstrosity
