I was reading through one of Bompas books the other day, and thought of something: his periodization scheme does work, just not very well compared to conjugated periodization. Then I started to wonder: What about his other ideas? I have always followed his percentages scheme (staying within a 20% range on a lift i.e. 80-100% of 1RM)and he also believed that it was the effort of lifting heavy weight, not the exercise itself that developed power. Any thoughts on this?
I agree with about 90% of what Bompa says (I have all of his books). I don’t like his periodization schemes, but the training methods he uses are very good and the information he gives are right on the money most of the time. It’s just a matter of using a better planning system.
