Trump Gauntlet is Now Officially Dropped

#1

All pretense and posturing is over.

Cruz and Kasich have now officially dropped the gauntlet and its on with Trump.

Within minutes of each other; Cruz and Kasich issued statements saying they will divide their efforts in upcoming contests with Cruz focusing on Indiana and Kasich devoting his efforts to Oregon and New Mexico. The strategy is aimed at blocking Trump from gaining the 1,237 delegates necessary to claim to GOP nomination this summer.

In the statement, Cruz Campaign manager Jeff Roe called Trump being at top of the ticket “a sure disaster,” adding “to ensure that we nominate a Republican who can unify the Republican Party and win in November, our campaign will focus its time and resources in Indiana and in turn clear the path for Gov. Kasich to compete in Oregon and New Mexico”.

Wow.

Thoughts?

The GOP Convention is NOT going to be pretty; but one of the most fascinating in a long, long time…

#3

Also…many are still waiting for Trump’s response to this development.

#4

This is history in the making.

This has potential to be as big a influence on U.S. politics as the rise of the religious right and the voter shift that occurred in the 80s.

Edit-

Though, this would probably only be true if you had someone OTHER than Trump leading the charge.

Which really is fucking sad.

Where the fuck are the great populist leaders?

#5

I really don’t get the strategy.

The idea is that by “stopping” Trump you will somehow unite the Party?

It makes no sense. Doing this seems like it will be more dividing.

Why not let it play out, and lets see what the GOP voters decide?

Maybe it’s a bit idealistic on my part; but my feeling is that winning or losing in the fall seems secondary to abiding by the will of the GOP voters.

On a related note; Big Money (like the Koch Brothers) have said that they will NOT support Trump. Is this entering into the GOP gamble/calculation?

#6

As expected…Trump has come out swinging…

#7

Part of the Trump Statement:

“Collusion is often illegal in many other industries and yet these two Washington insiders have had to revert to collusion in order to stay alive. They are mathematically dead and this act only shows; as puppets of donors and special interests; how truly weak they and their campaigns are”.

“This is a horrible act of desperation, from two campaigns who have totally failed. This makes me even more determined; for the good of the Republican Party and our country; to prevail!”

#8

kind of like the gop is saying "THE PEOPLE are stupid"
so hillary you can have 4

#9

The typical hyperbole doesn’t work anymore, the average voter doesn’t give a flying fuck about “the party,” none of that shit helps people pay their mortgage. People want the candidates to talk about things they see in their daily lives.

People also want to be spoken to plainly, not in a scripted fashion, that is downright robotic.

Hopefully the “The (fill-in-the-blank-next-Primary-should-tell-us-how-viable-a-candidate-Trump-REALLY-is)” crap can maybe stop now?

Trump destroyed the other candidates in the Northeast…

(Oh wait…what about Indiana?)

Right.

The momentum going into the Convention certainly belongs to him.

Who was doubting he could win a party nomination? What he can’t win is the General election.

#12

Sloth…

There were more than a few in the GOP who were hoping that Trump could be stopped…

#13

Yes, but that means we (actual conservatives) feared he COULD win the nomination. The never-Trump movement was entirely about stoping what had always been seen as very likely. It’s the general election, in which he’s considerably more hated than Clinton, where he won’t win. Madame President…Get used to it.

#14

Now a near cert that Trump gets the nomination outright. That is unless John Kasich drops out. At that point Cruz could take California and force a contested convention.

'Ol JK has been in the race months longer than Rubio and still has less delegates. Zombie campaign doesn’t even begin to describe it.

#15

The thing that seems clear to me is that “the party” is the republicans in power who are strategising how to get this away from Trump. They aren’t listening to the constituency, who are voting Trump into a hyooge lead.

The only real divide is between the politicians and the people. The fault of that is squarely upon the politicians.

#16

Agree, SkyzykS.

Ultimately I think the GOP would have been better off just openly rigging the whole thing like the DEMS.

I could be wrong (not sure what history has shown); but it seems like the designation of “Super-Delegates” almost assures that the DEM power brokers get who they want.

If the GOP takes this thing from Trump (even though it may be “within the rules”)…I think that we can count on chaos. Trump will not go down quietly.

#17

I disagree. Trump has not gotten a majority of Republicans to support him, in addition to his lack of support from the party. At this point in the race the front runner should have a clear majority and support, unifying the party. There are a lot of GOP voters who have rejected Trump and continue to do so.

Edit: With his lack of ability to get Republican support and the fact that 40% of republican voters say they won’t vote for him… unless something happens (HRC indictment?) he will get crushed in the general.

Hillary is doing horribly among all male voters, especially white male voters. This whole gender thing works both ways, and I see it being a wash between women who hate Trump and men who hate Hillary.

The turnout among Republicans is much higher, while the Dem turnout is substantially lower.

On a sad note, during a Trump protest in Anaheim, an anti-Trump protestor sprayed pepper spray recklessly into a crowd of Trump supporters. 5 people were sprayed, 2 of which were 2 young girls. This piece of shit should be hung upside down by his nut hairs.

Funny, the national media love to report when Trump supporters do dumb shit like that but I have to hear about the opposite on a fuckin’ weightlifting message board.

MSM can kiss my pale pasty white ass
