Trap involvement in other work?

Hey all - I was thinking about this today:
How much do your traps contract on exercises like flat DB bench, or reverse curl, or even a seated row with underhand grip? I’ve been noticing that my traps tend to really tighten up on these lifts, and i’m not so sure its a great thing. So, I’ve been experimenting with trying to relax them and minimize their activity during those lifts. Anyhow, whats up with this? Do I have some funky dysfunctional motor pattern or is this a normal thing?
