Training For Rock Climbing

So, after roughly a 3 year hiatus, I’m probably going to start rock climbing again this summer (due to my partners moving to Seattle a few years back, I’ll probably be bouldering).

I’ve never been very good at training to compliment this, which is why I’m here. I realize pull-ups, grip, and leg strength are a necessity, but I’m not entirely sure how to go about this; I’ve pretty much trained in a powerlifting style for the last several years.

Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated!

I’m not a rock climber, but I’m guessing grip strength plays a pretty huge role.

Maybe try some towel chins (wrap a couple towels around the pullup bar, grab 'em, and bang out some reps).

Hell, you could probably progress to 4-finger chins (no thumb overlap).

You may also want to try plate pinches and farmers walks.

All the climbers I’ve ever seen have been ripped to shreds, too. If you have any excess bodyfat, you’ll probably want to shed that off.

Just a few thoughts.
