This is absolutely false. It’s not what you do, it’s the way that you do it.
i love shit like this
? What are you referring to?
Op thinking that “horizontal pulling is for thickness and vertical pulling is for width”

seriously… who comes up with this shit?
Oh good. I thought you might be questioning what I said, which would have really fucked with my head…lol.

you dont know shit, lats grow to the sides and make you wide, traps(lower/mid), erectors spinae, rear delt, rhomboid, is what makes thickness not lats…

you are aware that the lat is a muscle that is wide…AND thick… right? the lats contribute a great deal to both aspects of the back

i swear you guys worry me sometimes
Do you agree that some exercises(or the manner in which they are performed) place an emphasis on back thickness as opposed to back width? Or do you disagree with these concepts completely?

To the OP deadlifts, deadlifts and more deadlifts.

Performing rowing movements with elbows flared while pulling to your chest should emphasize thickness more. For what it is worth I do not think you should disregard lat width completely. Changing emphasis due to personal preference is completely fine but neglecting an important part of your “physique” will only hurt you in the long run.

As for exercises I would do DB rows, chest supported rows and face pulls all with the above modifications. (Don’t pull face pulls to your chest…duh). Oh and focus on increasing your deadlift.

sure, you can alter the emphasis… im sure it’s like trying to isolate the VMO in your quad, there are ways you can put emphasis on it… but…
