Training Ankles

hi,
as a basketball player I suffer very often from sprained ankles. Is there a way to specifically train ankles?
I do the platform excercices but is there anything else?

You might want to try wearing tennis shoes or walking shoes instead of those sprained ankle machines known as “basketball shoes”.

If you can get your hands on some jump stretch bands you can do some 4 way ankleing exercises. Go forward, backward, right and left for a few sets of 10 and see how it works. Buddy Morris used these when he was with the Browns, and I have seen our trainer use these with guys who had ankle problems.

I had bad ankles as did a few others when I played FB. The coach had us walk on the outsides of our feet untilm we could simply walk that way pain free.

Its a hell of a strech at first but after a bit you will have flexible and tough ankles.

Might give it a try.

Single leg deadlifts, single leg squats and King deadlifts should assist in training the ankles and stablizer muscles.

Solid article, some of this stuff helped me rehab a degree II high ankle sprain…

It’s geared toward adding size, but it also has applications for injury prevention.

Also, look into some lace-up ankle supports if you don’t have access to a good tape job, or in addition to one if you have serious issues. They’re relatively cheap and they work well.
