Top Ten Songs Of All Time

I want to know the songs you guys consider the 10 best ever. So to to get the ball rolling:

  1. Mr Tambourine Man - Bob Dylan
  2. The Beatles - Strawberry Fields
  3. Manic Street Preachers - A Design For Life
  4. The Smiths - Ask
  5. The Clash - London Calling
  6. Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
  7. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
  8. The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset
  9. Marc Cohn - Walking In Memphis
  10. Guns N Roses - Sweet Child Of Mine

I didn’t put more than one of any artist /group in the top 10 because many of them have done a lot of great songs. Ie you could make the top 10 all Dylan or Beatles if you wanted too.

Songs that just missed out on mine are:

John Lennon - Imagine
R.E.M - Man On The Moon
Duran Duran - Rio
The Verve - Bitersweet Syphony
Bruce Springsteen - Born to run
Blur - Parklife
Ben E King - Stand By Me
The Who - My Generation
U2 - With or without you
The Libertines - Dont Look Back Into The Sun

Good luck…

These are just my favourites. I wouldn’t say they should be considered the best songs.

In no particular order.
Gimme shelter - Rolling Stones
Smells Like Teen Spirit- Nirvana
Civil War- Guns N Roses
Break On Through- The Doors
Fade To Black- Metallica
Cemetary Gates-Pantera
Sweet Chid of Mine- Guns n Roses

Other bands that were close include

Megadeth
Ozzy
Bob Dylan
Slayer

Allman Brothers Band

Classic thread…good topic. However, top 10 is probably too long after about 15 posts so i’ll give you 5.

Jersey Girl - Tom Waits
Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder
Space Oddity - David Bowie
Rocket Man - Elton John
God only knows - The Beach Boys

You mention tom petty in the ‘nearly’ category. I think you have a point.

Also in no particular order. Bit of an ecletic mix and hope I don’t sound any less masculine cos’ of some of the choices!

Yesterday - The Beatles
Welcome to the Jungle - Guns’N’Roses
Drugs Don’t Work - The Verve
Smack Ya Bitch Up - The Prodigy
All Saints - Never Ever
Greatest Love of All - Whitney Houston
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Most of them have some sort of significance in my life, especially All Saints and The Verve. Could have chosen 10-15 tracks from The Beatles and another 3-4 from Guns’N’Roses. Pick WTHJ cos’ I’ve been playing a lot of GTA on the XBox recently!

Merry Christmas Guys an’ Gals

What do you mean? Do you like or dislike Petty? Tom Petty is in my top three for bands. He has so many excellent songs but I don’t think any single song of his belongs in my top ten. Refugee, breakdown and Free fallin are probably in my top twenty. I am constantly changing what I’m listening to so it’s hard to pick just ten.
