Top Ten Republicans Picked For Thursday Nights Debate

Senator Graham sounds like a robot. Good lord…

I can’t find it in myself to vote for Trump.

Christie was certainly not the only thing that didn’t go well for Romney. But, when you give the keynote speech at a convention and only talk about the nominee for 3:00 and talk about what a great Governor you are and how great New Jersey is you are certainly not helping the nominee. Also, when you follow Obama around like a lost puppy giving him accolades it was pretty freakin obvious Christie did not want Romney to run because he (Christie) had designs on the White House himself. So for those two things I hope he gets his ass kicked in the primaries.

That did happen.

I don’t disagree with you. I am not saying Christie cost Romney the election. What I am saying is that Christie absolutely put a knife in Romney’s back every chance he had.
I would say it’s for a multiple of reasons.
First, I have no respect for someone that fucking obese who has that much money and power. I’m almost 100% positive he could hire a personal chef, and trainer all on the taxpayers dime.
Yeah but he played “Fat Bastard” in the Austin Powers movies.
Which brings me to my next issue which is that there are rumors out there that this fat fuck spent upwards of $82k on food at sporting events…in 1 year. IMO that literally should be enough to get someone kicked out of office on the grounds of frivolous spending/abuse of power.

Then would be his complete hypocricsy in regards to his policies, the policies he wants to implement and his own “self-control”
I can’t blame you for your position on Christie. He is my last choice for the nomination. But if he gets it I will support him all I can to keep Hitlery out of the White House.

Graham is not Presidential timber.

First debate went as I thought.

I was interested in Pataki when he announced he was running. But didn’t think he had a strong debate…maybe because he was mostly touting his own accomplishments and making hollow suggestions.
But I did like his answer for the PP/abortion debate.

Graham is a war hawk

And Fiorina was IMO the best candidate on that stage. She really needs to propel herself to the varsity debates.

Carli Fiorona (sp) should have that spot.

I am curious, do you not like Christie because of the very large butcher knife that he stuck in Romney’s back in 2012. As many recall he took the stage at the Republican National Convention and spoke about himself for almost 20 straight minutes mentioning Romney only a few times. Or, are you upset with Christie because after the storm damage in his state he followed Obama around like a lost puppy wiping the sweat off his brow every chance he had?

Or do you not like him for some of his policy positions?

Well I disagree with the premise that it was his actions at the RNC that screwed Romney over. If you were to listen certain right wing media outlets, they would have you believe that the knife pierced Romney’s back after the hurricane, while Christie was bear hugging Obama.

Personally I don’t put much weight behind that narrative. I think Romney lost because of Romney, the war on women, and the overall ignorance of voters.
Romney never had a chance. The data are very clear that other than a few days during the entire election cycle, he NEVER had any type of lead.

The post-hoc attempts to blame Christie, the RNC, conservatives, the debates, etc. completely ignores the fact that Romney never had a sustained lead in in the polls.

Ya, Fiorina did very well and I thought Jindal had a good night too. The rest were ok.

A Bernie Sanders presidency could be described as “most likely to spark a civil war.”

What country is on the top of your list to move to?

A little late to this party but since we know that being obese has a significant negative impact on health, I hardly think it’s shallow to want a president who at least goes through the motions of not incurring the risk of dying that being obese brings.

I donno, I’d have to think about it.

pretty hard to go wrong with a Socialist Euro Country:)

Given that Fox News seemed hell bent on attacking Donald Trump and marginalizing Dr. Carson, I thought they both did ok. It was like an SEC road game for both of them. (Meaning football. Trump would be like an Auburn or a Georgia and Carson is straight up Vandy in that analogy)

Trump needs to be utterly destroyed if he doesn’t win the primary. If he finishes 2nd or a respectable 3rd he will run independent in the general election and split the party, insuring another Democrat President.

Maybe Trump is the designated spoiler by design. Everyone knows he’s really not a viable candidate for the party having zero experience in politics.

See I didn’t get that at all. I agree they didn’t ask Dr. Carson a lot of early questions, but I bet if you tallied the number of questions up he got his fair share. I think he had one of the stronger performances too.

The first question for Trump from Kelley I guess I can see as attacking him, but otherwise I didn’t think he was being attacked at all except by Paul on single payer I suppose. I think Trump had one of the worst performances personally.

I don’t think they threw a whole lot of softballs to any of the candidates.

Agree with this summary for the most part:
Phoenix44e wrote:

I thought he had gastric bypass last year? Did he put a bunch of weight back on or did he never lose anything in the first place?

Here’s my take on each candidates performance:

Donald Trump: It’s true that they went after him. But then again he is Donald Trump there is a lot to go after. He has been mouthing off on reality TV for a long time. If he is going to clear the bar for the Presidency he needs to clear up many of his previous comments. He did a poor job regarding that. All he did last night was hurt himself. He was loud and loutish, very non-presidential. He had (as I predicted) simple answers to complex questions. His poll numbers might come down a bit after his horrible performance.

Chris Christie: No secret I am not a fan , but he did a pretty good job last night. His lowest moment came when Rand Paul accused him of sucking up to and hugging Obama. I must say I enjoyed that. But other than that he displayed a very good command of the issues. He reminded people that he was fighting terrorism since he was a District Attorney. He also touted the improvement in NJ economy as Governor.

Marco Rubio: His answers were clear I don’t believe he stumbled even once. He showed a very good handle on the issues. He also gave the best closing remarks of the entire group. He also has a million dollar smile which may not mean much to guys. but, women love it. If I had to pick one of the winners last night he would be in that group.

Scott Walker: I think Walker helped himself last night as he showed strength in an area where he has been weak, foreign policy. Other than that he had some pretty odd looks in the background as Ben Carson spoke. Personally, I think Walker has a very odd look about him. I certainly wouldn’t call it Presidential. Of course the guy can’t help how he looks, but it doesn’t help him. And remember people are “casting” the next President. The man or woman must look, sound and be Presidential with a good amount of charisma. Walker just doesn’t have that.

Ben Carson: Probably the biggest surprise of the evening to me. His answers had depth. And he said he wouldn’t tell the enemies of our country whether he would water board or not…brilliant! He also displayed a good sense of humor which is important for reaching the masses. Overall I’ve never been a Carson fan. But I think for those out there like me, they might give him another look.

John Kasich: Here is another candidate who I feel had a good night. He came across as more compassionate than the rest of the group. This will attract women voters. He also had some strong answers when it came to foreign policy. I’m betting he will rise in the polls after his strong debate performance. Certainly one of the winners last night.

Rand Paul: He had a great moment when he reminded Chris Christie that he hugged Obama. I almost fell off my chair laughing. But overall he just doesn’t look Presidential. I know a lot of you guys don’t seem to agree with me when I say winning the Presidency takes charisma and plenty of it. Rand Paul is truly the anti-charisma candidate. This will keep him away from the top five and far from the White House. I also thought that some of his answers were just too darned simplistic. I think that’s the libertarian in him. I would advise him to quit right now and save his time and money. I don’t even think he’d be a good VP pick. There are many others better suited for that position as well.

Mike Huckabee: I always new him to be a strong communicator and he displayed that talent last night. While I don’t think he had any particular moment that made him stand out he was steady and gave really good answers the entire evening. But he also looked old compared to the rest of the field which will ultimately hurt him. Remember…people do vote on looks.

Jeb Bush: Maybe it’s in his genes I have no idea. But, he just looked Presidential to me last night. Most of you know I am not a Bush fan but I feel he hit it out of the park. Really smooth answers, talked well about his success as Governor, didn’t flinch at any point when the moderators came after him. I have to say he had a very good night and I think one of the winners.

Ted Cruz: Other than sounding just a tad rehearsed I think he fielded the questions very well. Very strong command of the issues. It was obvious that he has experience in the debate department (Princeton champ). He was absolutely the most relaxed from start to finish.

Also, I think they should have gone after Hillary Clinton more. Several candidates did link Obama and Hillary. the phrase “the Obama/Clinton doctrine” was used several times which was great. But Obama was mentioned too many times and not linked to Hillary. Obama will soon be yesterday’s news, it is Hillary whom they will most likely run against.

Well there you have it. I’d love to hear from the rest of you on how you thought each candidate performed.

Did the debate last night change anyone’s mind?
