Wol you sly dog, you had me at “hello”.

Why would Method_Man rate himself as #8? What happened to go big or go home?

No particular order:

Nas
Guru
Jay-Z
Black Thought
Ice Cube
Raekwon
Ghostface Killa
Method Man
ODB
GZA

honorable mention:
B-Real, Chuck D, Andre Nickatina, Del tha Funky Homosapien

LOL a top 10 list without Masta Ace is a sign the author doesn’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.

If you have eminem on your list just chuck out another dude from the list or cross off eminem and put Masta Ace instead. It’s so obvious em got his flow from Ace, who was hugely influential on him when he was young and startin’ out with them mad spittin’s.

Anyway, in no particular order

Biggie
Tupac
Nas
Rakim
Canibus
The Last Emperor
Guru
Scarface
Eminem [who I really don’t like but he is talented as all hell]
Big L
Sage Francis

I’m really gonna have to think about this 'cause I know I’ll revise it. These are just who popped in my head immediately. I’m basing this off of lyrical ability, lyrical content, flow, delivery and overall style.[/quote]

Kool G? Big Daddy Kane?

haha yeah boi I agree with you 100%: Nas > Jay-Z all day!

My list is not based on sales, but overall rhyme flow & content.

I no particular order:

Rakim
KRS-ONE
Chuck D.
Melle Mel
Big Daddy Kane
RUN
Guru
Kool G Rap
Method Man
Nas

No love for the Geto Boys?

When 2 Live Crew were the big “controversial” thing, Geto Boys were way more hardcore… and funny as fuck!

Check out how they sampled a redneck “Sweet Home Alabama” for this tune. Lyrics STILL have me laughing after all these years.

LOL

10 best or 10 i like the most?

Big L
Biggie
Nas
Ma$e (this is why i asked the above question
Method man
Gza
Ghostface
EPMD (does that count as 2)
Eazy E
Game (when he isnt trying to sing, 300 bars was excellent)

  1. Biggie
  2. Jay-Z [a really close second]
  3. Wu-Tang Clan [I have to lump them into one, or they’ll crowd the list]
  4. Nas
  5. Rakim
  6. Kanye West [And the prime of his career isn’t done yet so he could rise]
  7. Eminem
  8. Snoop Dogg [his catalogue is eehhh, but his impact was huge]
  9. Tupac [I think he’s overpraised, but he was important and dope in his own way]
  10. Lil Wayne [don’t hate, his 06-08 run was great]

That’s my list which is of course skewed towards the kind of hip hop I like the most. I don’t think I’m in any position to name the best ever, mainly because I need to listen to more stuff from before the early 90s. I mean I’m familiar with a lot of the important rappers/groups, but I’m just not a huge enough fan to say I know a lot about it.

Also: I need to get my southern rap up to par…something tells me I should have named Outkast, Scarface, or Cee-Lo or someone to that list. And I feel like if I became more familiar with Ice Cube’s stuff he’d make the list too.

EDIT: I fuckin hate lists…I’m already thinking of people who I should have put on the list instead.

Underrated as hell. A lot of rappers who got famous [Fab, 50 Cent, Kanye West] looked up to him or borrowed elements of his style. One of the best, if not the best flow in rap history.

I also think Harlem World [and Life After Death] really laid the blueprint for the artistic pop rap album more than any Jay-Z record did. My first favourite pop song was Feel So Good, too-lol. I think I was 5 or 6 years old.

I’M OUT HERE ON THEM STREETS B, COME AT ME!

p.s. Big Daddy Kane wrote Raw to commemorate the time you two shared a prison cell.
You dropped the soap a few too many times for it to be accidental methinks.
