Does anyone know if use of a punching bag in the days between weight training violates the rule of letting your muscles rest 48 hours between workouts? I’ve set up a routine that would have me doing weight training on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with some rather vigorous heavy bag training on Sundays and Thursdays. I’m just wondering if punching that much would be enough to hinder the muscles ability to recover after weight training.
Try it and find out if it works for YOU. start slow. concentrate on which ever is more important to your goals the bag work or weight make that the most intense and slowly up the other.
See how you feel. etc etc.
Max strength work + good punching acts as plyo’s - and you dont need any direct plyo work most of the time if your focusing on your sport. So max strength work + heavy bag training + just boxing (or muay thai) = gaining some powerful stuff in your arsenal.
Problems with this type of schedule usually show up in the delts first. I think it’s best to ease into it at first.
