Too Big For Your Profession?

-Arnold throws a machete at a bad guy, pinning him like a bug against the wall-

“Stick around!”

Dude i know what u mean. I used to be in porn, but no girls will work with me anymore cuz I’m TOO big. Go figure.

Went to a confined space rescue training and had to crawl through a maze of 24" and 18" tunnels blindfolded. Halfway through my first 18" tube, I was thinking I might be too big for my profession.

I will say however that I stay on track with the diet alot easier now. All I gotta do is think about that being in that fucking tube and I’m back on track.

18"? Clearly they don’t want too many fire fighters who can actually carry out a victim. I think they would just send me home.

Yes, Arnold did make it big as an actor professionally but he also has had very few roles that require much more than basic entertainment value. I’ve never seen Arnold in a role that really moved me more than making me want to kick some ass.[/quote]

How else would you want to be moved after seeing a movie?

A good movie to me is one that makes me laugh or want to kick some ass (in various ways).

Alas! I will never be a ballerina :stuck_out_tongue:

How bout one that makes you think. That’s not a good movie?

Help change the industry? Do a decent indie flick with a sensitive, decent big guy

Seriously, though, I know hollywood is a skinny person’s world - and that’s bad. Look at the number of people with some kind of body dysmorphic problem thanks to Hollywood. Look at the girls who look terrible because they are just skin and bone. And a lot of guys aren’t much better.

You can be artistic, creative, intelligent and thoughtful at the same time as being big, strong, and sporty. Too bad a lot gf people (outside this site) don’t realise that.

I understand what you’re saying. I have a friend who is an indie film producer in Wilmington, NC. I once asked him (hypothetically as I have no acting ability/experience outside of high school drama) what kind of roles he would cast me in if I were in one of his films.

He said based on my appearance, probably some sort of “thug” or “bad guy.” And I’m not even that big or overly muscular either. At the time, I was even smaller than now. The up side to that is if I ever did act, I wouldn’t mind playing the bad guy…lol

From the movies I have seen lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if that won’t change slightly in the future thanks to actors like Micheal Clarke Duncan (who can actually act) and even the weight change that Christian Bale went through…hopefully.

coughving rhaymescough

Ving is a big mofo, and was more than convincing in Dawn of the Dead.

I like Duncan aswell, he was pretty convincing running down that hall in The Island, made me shed a tear to see all that muscle goto waste.

Yea 18". I had to throw my arms out in front of me and roll my shoulders in just so I could cram myself in. Inch by inch. Couldn’t even take a full breath. That was as close to full panic as I’ve ever been.

At least the folks coming behind me were clean!

Back on topic… well, almost, wear baggy clothes, slouch and don’t flex.

Yeah that’s pretty much one of my biggest fears right there.

shudders

…and just about everyone else. He was well over 320lbs for Daredevil.

I read he was even heavier for The Green Mile, like 340. And they had him stand on wooden blocks so he’d look taller. I guess 6’ 5" wasn’t enough.

Ummm, not to get too semantic-al here, but there’s a huge difference between being a movie star and being an average working actor…Leave movies aside for a sec and think about how many really fit/big-ish guys you’ve seen in commercials. More often than not the central “guy” in a commercial is a tiny putz that’s non threateneing to the general public. Look at beer commercials, bunch of regular guys and hot girls. If the guys were “big” the beer commercial audience would be threatened by the guy they’re supposed to identify with and not buy the beer.

Theatre is really tough if you’re big relative to the others folks around you. I’m in the same boat as our boy who put up the first post, and at 6’, 210 and 14%(ahem) the folks at the theatre festival I work at have told me from day one (when I was 180) that I was “too big”.
Just my 2c.

Thanks for the thoughts guys, but I’m gonna have to agree with Winger here. For the majority of regular acting jobs, being “big” is not marketable.
