Toney Freeman Comment

I was looking through Flex Magazine the other day (yes, I know, cardinal sin, but there was nothing else worthwhile at Wal-Mart to flip through) and they had a section on Toney Freeman.

He said that he wants to be at 305 pounds for the 2008 Mr. Olympia. He then said “If I don’t win the 2008 Mr. Olympia, I’ll retire.”

Thoughts? Comments??

At 6’2", Freeman may need to come in at 300lbs to win.

And if he’s thinking about a life after BB, getting off IFBB heavyweight levels of gear would mean retirement.

At 300 contest ready he would look damn good.

Thought 1.) WTF is wrong with Flex magazine?

While I usually buy MD, they have been on the scene for a hell of a long time and there is a reason for that. I agree they don’t seem to be the top mag currently but I doubt that is what you meant. Everyone here doesn’t jump on the same bandwagon.

Thought 2.) Freeman is tall. 300lbs on him is not like 300lbs on someone 5’10". Even at near 300lbs he has better shape and proportion than the guys currently winning the Olympia. He just isn’t “ridiculously huge” (even though that is relative as I doubt he walks into a room without causing a commotion.

I didn’t mean any disrespect on Flex Magazine, it was just the only thing worthwhile reading at Wal-Mart. I could either read quilting magazines (no thanks), women’s magazines (no thanks again), or cooking magazines (no thanks times three).

But yeah, you’re right about him being tall (6’2") and the same weight (300 lbs) doesn’t look the same on shorter guys. And you’re right, he is well proportioned. I think he would look good at 305 for the Olympia.

He also said he wants to be 290 for the Olympia this year. I believe he comes in at 280 for contest weight currently.

I think Flex is a great mag, and I second what the Prof said about symmetry in bodybuilding. I wish it would be more of the winning package as it used to be before all of the "let's get freaky huge" mindsets that are prevalent today..

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with quilting, I just said I didn’t read those magazines. I respect all hobbies, and if quilting is your hobby, I respect that.

You should quilt a blanket with a T-Nation logo. Now THAT would be sweet.

Get to it bushy.

Flex and MD are the only two I read, nothing wrong with Flex they have their good months.

Even though Freeman is starting to get the credit he deserves, I don’t see him winning the Olympia in '08. Cutler’s got 2 more placings built for Sandow’s in his house, and I don’t see him losing being as big as he is.

Besides Freeman’s pec tear would probably end up causing him problems with the top O slot when it comes down to it, but maybe the judges will look past it.
