To Lock or Not to Lock Scapula During Rows and Pullups?

Hi Coach,

What’s your view on the scapula during rows and pull ups? Some argue to keep them packed and locked while pulling, others say it should move freely. Just wondered your take on it?

@Paul_Carter is an advocate for letting the scapula move naturally during presses and rows. I know that he and Thib are good friends and share the same training/movement principles.

Anyone who tells you to “pack your scapula” you need to stop listening to. Especially on any movement where the humerus is moving.
