To Blood Lett or Not to Blood Lett

#1

Ok so i havent actually had my hct checked in a few months or donated any blood. But my heart rate is around 75 with bp of 116/70. Neither have ever been that low but i just recently corrected my sleep apnea and have upped cardio to an hr a day.

Can i base my decision to donate blood or not soley on heart rate and blood pressure? Or is that not a smart thing to do?

could you do any potential harm by doing so?

I dont know. I really doubt im anemic Or anything like that. I think the obvious thing to do is just get it checked by grtting bloodwork but i was just curious if i could make a decision by going off of blood pressure alone.

Correcting sleep apnea has done wonders for me. I advise anyone that snores and doesnt feel rested to get a sleep study done.

how’d you correct the sleep apnoea?

I got a custom adjustable mouth piece molded to my upper and lower jaw that holds my lower jaw forward when i sleep. I went from having moderate sleep apnea to getting a perfect score on a at home sleep study.

With apnea my heart rate was around 95 and blood pressure was 140 over 90 on average.

Now my heart rate is around 75 and blood pressure is around 115 over 70 ish. Huge improvement.

Maybe it has something to do with dieting and cardio as well but i attribute most of it to fixing the apnea. I know apnea elevates hematocrit also so im curious to see where its at. Ill try to get bloodwork this week.

Which brand of mouth piece do you use? I got one with good reviews but I always wake up with it outside of my mouth. During the night I just spit it out I guess.

Its not a brand. I was referred to a specialist who only specializes in sleep apnea mouth pieces. Its totally custom and thats the way you have to go if you want something that will work. Either that or a CPAP machine. I paid 2 grand for it just so you have an idea. Over the counter stuff you find in stores wont do anything.

Oh I see. Yeah, that is expensive but you can’t put a price on quality of sleep. I’ll look into it. Yours stays in every night?

Yup every night. Expensive but totally worth it. Especially since i know ill be putting on even morr weight in the future so its not like my apnea would be getting any better

I hadn’t had my levels checked in some time either, probably 5 months or so. I’ve been off a blast for a month, and my RBC sometimes runs a little high, so I went ahead and donated. My HR and BP have been fine as well, but I figure why not, it’s not going to harm anything.

Yeah very true. I just got some labs drawn today so we’ll see where its at. If its not out of range ill be pretty shocked lol.

This is going to sound like a dumb question, but how do you know if you have sleep apnoea? There’s been a couple of times I’ve woken up in the middle of the night feeling like I’m choking and unable to breathe…

Well that definitely sounds like apnea lol do you know if you snore? Do you have someone in your house that could closely watch you sleep? Those things would give you an idea but your best bet would be to get a sleep study done. Most sleep doctors will have a little take home machine you hook up to yourself and then return the next day so they can read the results.

Also, i knew something was up for a while just because of how i felt the next day, never rested enough and just run down. Sleep apnea prevents you from getting into deep sleep and can really mess up just a bunch of things in our bodies. We all know how important sleep is in this game! I feel like a new person since fixing it. Some people have it worse than others. Mine was moderate. Let me know if i can answer anything else for ya.

ah fuck!

It hasn’t happened for a while since I cut a lot of weight, but that’s still pretty worrying.

Hmmm. My old man has it and he’s not even particularly overweight; has to sleep with one of those machines and I doubt I’d ever be able to sleep with something like that on my face.

As far as I know I don’t snore badly. Everyone snores a little, don’t they? I’ll ask my girlfriend what she thinks.

Ok just got some labs back and hematocrit is at 48.4 which is very suprising but im not complaining lol. My ferritin is also on the rise which is awesome because it used to be basically non existant. I cant help but think somehow sleep apnea was affecting my storage of iron.

Ok heres something i really need help on. For 1 week now ive been taking 2mg of letro eod. But my estrogen is at 76.2 with a range of 11-44. Have i simply not been taking it long enough or is it time for me to call out the supplier? Id appreciate bills oponion on this. I feel like i should know but i do not. Thanks.

I dont think everyone snores but fwiw when i used to snore people couldnt fall asleep lol. But now im silent. losi’g weight will also help because your airway will become larger. But i plan on packing on the mass so its not like its going to improve but thats why my mouth piece is adjustable. Plus i used to really grind my teeth at night and this mouth piece prevents that as well.

letro can take a really long time to peak. See what Shelby thinks but I think you’ve probably just not been on long enough
