TM79's Training/Torture Log

I hear that. Being a UNC fan, I tend to wait until Sunday to watch football.

Thanks so much. Love to surf… Do you have a journal? I’ll look for it. :+1:t2:

The deads felt heavy. The pull-ups and OHP felt light. Accessory went well. Forgot to start my watch during that metcon. My wife’s name is Christine so had to give that one a shot. Ha ha…

Have a good day!

I do! Be warned though, it’s more of a public diary than workout journal :joy:

Is surfing similar to wake boarding? Never surfed but have wake boarded/surfed

Ha ha! I’ll check it out. Surfing is very different than wakeboarding. When you are wakeboarding, you generally keep your weight heavily on your back foot (to counterbalance being pulled by a rope that is moving forward). Plus, you are working with a wake that generally maintains a consistent shape. With surfing, you have to account for a number of variables: the swell, tide, wind, shape of the bottom, different board shapes for the conditions, etc… Also, you have to be in the perfect spot and time it perfectly to catch a wave (and choose the correct direction, right or left). Then, on a beach break, like wear I am, you enter into an almost subconscious mode of reacting to the wave (and other surfers) until you finish your ride. If you are fortunate enough to be surfing a point break, the wave generally peels and maintains a constant shape. It can be downright frustrating at times but when you do get a really good wave, it is the best thing on Earth (at least to me).

Excellent looking workout today Trent. Nice job on the big lifts. Your volume weeks are always impressive. Great job on the Accessories and Metcon too. It looks like you’re firing on all cylinders.

Thanks Greg. Most weeks are volume weeks nowadays… Things are going pretty well. My feet are giving me some issues, but hopefully that will subside at some point…

Solid deadlift and ohp session. Metcon named after your wife is a no brainer that you have to try it. Pasta night FTW!

Solid conditioning metcon today. Way to torch the calories.

UNC football has actually been pretty good over the past couple of years.

Good looking calorie torching Trent. That metcon in particular looks like a whopper. I would’ve had to follow all that up with a donut…just on principle alone.

Thanks Shane. Ha ha, whoever named that metcon obviously hasn’t met my wife or it would be nearly impossible to complete.

Thanks Greg. Don’t tempt me with the donuts. :joy:

Surfing – Wrightsville Beach, Access 35
1:08, 536 Cals

Comments: Wanted to warmup on the treadmill before this but slept in. Took my daughter to school early at 7:15AM and was in the water by 8:00AM. I was pretty beat this morning from a long week. Still had a good session. Went with the longboard even though it was definitely shortboardable. The shoulders were just closing down and I was trying to go with more volume to get in earlier. It paid off on a few but I ate it plenty of times too shortly after making the drop. I need to up my shortboard game…

Stats: 13:35, 163 Cals, 136 BPM

Comments: Fourth week of this cycle. I’m going to go a little heavier this week. My lower back and hip are bugging me some so not too heavy.

Legs were still a little sore from Saturday’s run and getting pounded in the shore break all afternoon with the kids yesterday. Got the squats done though. That accessory session included two exercises that I have grown to love. Goblet squats (holding 2x40 lb dumbbells) and reverse-grip ring rows. The Goblet Squats are more of a hybrid between squats and deadlifts, but just right on the lower back and knees. And nothing hits your biceps and back quite as perfect as those reverse-grip ring rows. Finished it off with some conditioning and that’s a wrap.

Have a good day!
