Time to get back to business

Alright, I’ve taken the last month off from lifting for School and many other reasons but I feel like its time to get back into the swing of things again. Now heres my dilemma: I’ve got the time (you’d be amazed…), but I can’t really afford to be very sore (particularly in my upper body), given the nature of my work (Double Bass player…) - so I’m sitting here debating what to do after probably losing a little strength and adding a couple pounds. EDT and Ian King’s programs both sound fantastic but like i said, the soreness factor is a big no-no in my line of work.
Anybody have a brilliant suggestion?
Goals are very general - get stronger, maybe lose some weight (not that significant to me), and whatever muscle comes from the experience, all the better (again, not that important…).
