Thoughts in Solitude

Has anyone else read this book? What were your thoughts on it?

It’s brought me to think pretty damn deeply. Also, don’t turn this into a religious debate. For sake of this forum.

You just turned into a religious debate…and start!

never read it but the intro is pretty sweet. might be checking this out.

“There is no greater disaster in the spiritual life than to be immersed in unreality…”

Man, it honestly is one of the best books I’ve read. The author comes to lots of interesting conclusions, which just make ya think.

I’ve never heard of this book. Who is the author?

…sounds like an interesting read. I learned a new word too, apophasis, referring to “mention by not mentioning”.

Thomas Merton

See, use the word apophasis and you lost me. Fucking academics.

Anyways “mentioning by not mentioning” sounds interesting. I’d like to see that in context.

I thought the name sounded familiar. I did a Google search and I found The Seven Mountains of Thomas Merton, a title I remember from high school. I recalled Merton was a Catholic theologian who, evidently, was a prolific writer on spiritual matters. I’ve yet to read any of his writings but I think I’m going to check out the book you mentioned.
