Third Week of 5-3-1

I’m a long time T-Nation reader but new to the forums. I have a question about the 3rd week of the 5-3-1 program. It calls for 3x5,3,1. Does that mean 3x5, then 3x3, then 3x1 with the prescribed percentages? Thanks for the clarification.

It calls for 5/3/1 day, a set of 5, a set of 3 then a single (although repping the ‘1’ weight is the objective for the day).

If you can do the rep only once, then do it once. What I have read and understood from Wendlers 5/3/1 is that that last set of ‘1’ you do as many repeitions as you can perform. If you can only do one, great, but try to do more than one, which I have always found to be beneficial. Just like the ‘Borin But Big’ type of routine. Where you do the same exercise with less weight 5 sets of 10 reps.

It’s just in the first part of your routine when you perform that 5/3/1…that last set…go balls out and leave 1 or 2 in the tank. That’s what he says in the book.

If you’re on your third week, how have you been performing weeks 1 through 2?
