Thinking About Moving to Cali...

I’m tired of the East coast and I think it’s time to head back to West side. I used to live in Vegas and I just miss the West side’s vibe and food (can’t forget about the food lol). I know a lot of people here live in California and just wanted to hear some of the pros and cons of a bachelor moving out there. I would be looking to go to a community college for a semester and then attend a university (PA or Bio major)

I don’t have a ton in savings so I need to find an area where the cost of living isn’t too crazy but isn’t in the woods/desert either. So far I’ve heard that I should stay away from the Bay area and LA due to congestion (and $$$) but San Diego and Sacramento keep coming up as decent spots to start out.

Any input would be appriciated.

Bullshit!! East Coast FTW!

Kind of ironic that you post this right as I get back from driving down to the beach cities. I’m out here for work and was thinking about seeing if my company has any spots in the plant here in Riverside or up in Lathrop. Every time I come out here, I fall more and more in love it (though I might be slightly biased since my father has a place up in Montecito looking down onto Santa Barbara…it’s hard NOT to fall in love with this place).

Bay area’s fun, but expensive. Riverside seems to be a bit more industrial and auto related. Santa Barbara’s hella expensive. Carmel is absolutely gorgeous. LA is hidden under a layer of smog. Napa is a blast if you’re a vinophile. Malibu’s pretty laid back, but expensive a well.

North Kakalac and Virgina are WAAAYYYYYY better than where I’m at right now and if I move I might as well go where I been wanting to go for awhile.

California has so many problems that I’m surprised anyone wants to move there. It really is a shame that the people have ruined such a beautiful state. If you are really set on the west coast have you considered going north of Cali? Either way I hope you find a place that makes you happy.

Well, good luck getting a job out here. Other than that, you can find rent cheap. In Sac at least.

I’d imagine SD is still pretty expensive, regardless of the economy.

Born and raised in Richmond, VA. Love it there, too, haha!

Virgina is a beautiful state, the University of Virgina is on my short list of schools that will make me stay on the East Coast.

Charlottesville is a gorgeous city. Just don’t adopt the UVA better-than-thou attitude and you’ll be good to go.

I just came back from visiting my brother in Irvine. I live in butt-fuck Michigan and I hadn’t been back in 6 years. I ate at El Pollo Loco and In and Out burger for three days straight. You really don’t know what you got until it’s gone. I’m moving back to as soon as I can. Probably Anaheim. I was born there.

Not sure if I can help though. San Diego is nice I guess. I have only driven through a few dozen times. The Marine base is around there, actually Oceanside, and it’s really sunny all the time. The girls are all white, dumb, and hot as fuck.

Not sure who told you it wouldn’t be pricey. From what I understand, San Diego is like most other coastal areas in California - a dollar isn’t going to take you far at all.

Don’t forget how close San Diego is to the border either. You might want to consider that as well.

If you are looking for a less expensive San Diego type area, I think Oceanside would be your best bet. It’s where all the Marines live, so the rents there couldn’t be too steep.

My advice won’t really do you much good because it’s very biased. Iv’e lived in SoCal most of my life; HB Garden Grove, Anaheim, LA, La Mirada, Long Beach, Norwalk, Placentia, and Glendale are the only places I’ve lived in for more than 6 months at a time. My favorite places to live were Anaheim and HB. HB is expensive if you want to live in a good area, or by the ocean. Anaheim is a lot of undocumented workers and gangs. But I loved it.

There are certain areas of California that are the meth capitals of the country. From what I know Riverside, Hemet, Taft, Hesperia, Bakersfield and Oxnard have all real bad meth problems.

Sorry this won’t be of much help. I just wanted to throw my two pennies into this thread.

If I were to move anywhere (lived in LA most my life, lived in Irvine for a while, and just bought a house in San Bernardino County right outside LA). LA has a lot of problems, but the vibe the people the culture of Southern California beach cities can’t be matched ANYWHERE. I’ve lived in many states and lived in England for a while. CALI is where its at.

Look in the city of Orange. It’s in Orange county, really nice city, not too far from the beach, not toooo expensive like the rest of the OC. Just a great area to live in. But if you can find a nice place in SD move their. I’m an LA boy by heart, but the City of Orange and SD, both not in LA, are where I would move if I was starting over. GREAT CITIES.

Good Luck man.

I forgot about Orange. GREAT place there, the Orange County Fair every year brings all the hotties out in their skimpy “I wanna get fucked tonight” clothes.

I live in San Diego and I am a fan. It is a bit expensive, but it is beautiful here and you can do anything. You’ve got the beach, mountains, desert, farmland, forest, even swamp.

There are jobs. They might not be the job you want.

Oceanside is a city in San Diego County. There is a lot of military there with Camp Pendleton, but we also have Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and Marine Corps Recruiting Depot so you can find housing.

I love this town.

NOOOOOOOO

Don’t join the dark side, Soulja. They all have butlers, eat organic fruit, own a Prius, smoke the reefer, and are all full of themselves.

Stay on the East Coast. Stay in the South. We’re down to earth people.

@skaz05 | I’ve been to Riverside and it looked worst than my hometown and I got outta there when I was 17 so no go on that. x2 on Pollo Loco, that’s what I’m talkin about when I said I miss West Coast food.

@Andrew | I never heard of Orange but I’ll be sure to check it out. I don’t have anything against LA I just know I can’t afford to stay there quite yet.

@OC | I dunno about going to Oceanside, I’ve been around military for most of my life (Army/Air Force) and I’m kinda tired of the lifestyle but I’ll keep it in mind. What are those jobs that people don’t want?

@ Wol | Damnit! I want all of that!! Well everything except the Prius gimme a Camero instead. Did you see what skaz05 posted? Hot dumb white wimenz! You know how I love the white wimenz… you guys didn’t see that…

Thanks for all the info guys keep it coming.

They’re nothing but posers over there, Soulja. White chicks included. But fine, you made your choice. When the great war comes and you’re on the West Coast, I will not show mercy.

You know we have the marines and the navy here don’t you? There is a lot of military in San Diego.

BUT we also have a lot of colleges and universities, lots of great beach, lots of mountains, even good fishing and the only warm weather Olympic training facility.

Lots of cashier jobs, lots of retail jobs, lots of accounting and IT jobs (think Geek Squad). We have a lot of casinos and you can do different types of jobs there from valet, facilities, cashier, accounting, dealer or security.

In and Out burger starts at $11.00 an hour with benefits. Jack in the Box has a gym on its premises for the employees. Qualcomm, SAIC, and Sea World.

I don’t know what you do.

We don’t have chicken and waffles, … or at least I haven’t seen one, but we do have the best Mexican food.
