Think Big - Road to a 550 lb Deadlift

#342

Lol, i just noticed I didnt even change from saturday to sunday.

#343

Just watch out for dadbod on-set. That shit’ll creep up on you. About 5 years ago, 3 years into my first child, I didn’t realize how bad it had gotten until I saw pics of myself on the beach. I started a cut that next week haha.

#344

Haha I definitely have a few pounds i could lose around the midsection. I used to drink quite a few beers on the weekend that I thought were contributing to the cause but now since our son has been born I havent drank alcohol in prob 3 months but the gut has still decided to hang on. The struggle is real

edit** scrounged up some photos from about 7 years ago. Motivation to get unfat lol

#345

Shredded, but 150!

Another way to look at it is you can only gain quality muscle for so long. I’m 35, and have committed the next couple years to packing on what muscle I can. It only gets tougher from here. I’m not going to get fat per say, but there will be pudge, the abs will fade. But I can always get them back. Gaining muscle though, that’s something that needs to be done now.

Plus, being in a surplus keeps you healthy. My pains have disappeared since I committed to the gain. Huge!

#346

Yea man that totally makes sense. I remember reading an article about percentage of muscle vs body weight the older we get and how it really does have such a huge positive impact on many different health situations. I don’t know what it’s like yet to be worried about growth yet but I do feel pretty close lol. I definitely don’t feel 21 anymore but I think now I’ve kinda figured myself out and what it takes to grow. It’s only taken me like 12 years haha. Stay stubborn

Well squats felt like shit. 300 felt heavy and slow and out of groove. Gotta keep trucking on, just one of those bad sessions

Got a deload week on deadlifts, heavy day on bench and gotta hit 320 for a double on squat this weekend. Then next weekend is work up to a max (95%+) single on deadlift. Pumped for that, the on the BBB 6 week challenge. After that I am thinking about trying out a Sheiko intermediate routine. It seems like it would fit my schedule pretty well and has worked pretty well for others near my level.

@Vincepac1500 I know load is pretty light (around 70%) but how does the sumo lifts above look? Thanks

#351

I would get your feet out a bit wider, it may cause some strength loss but it’ll set you up better a little later down the road. Only other thing that really stood out was that it didn’t look like you pulled up and built tension as you lowered into position to pull.

#352

Appreciate it, def will work on it I plan to run sumo for the next 6 weeks as the main movement

Well it looks like I need a new Training Log Title

A bunch of foam rolling and straight arm band push downs

Deadlifts
225 x 1
275 x 1
315 x 1
365 x 1

500 x 1 (PR)
405 x 2 (sumo)
405 x 2 (sumo)
405 x 2 (sumo)

Super stoked about this. I was pretty tired this morning and my lifts leading up to 500 didn’t feel fast at all. I had to pace around and psych myself up quite a bit but I do that maybe 1% of the time so I guess it’s ok. I though I was gonna lose it just above my knees but I kept saying in my head pull pull pull pull lol guess it worked out, anyway here’s the video:

#355

Congrats mate goal reached
