Pressing boards are about 1/2" thick and 1’ long right?
you buy 1 2x4 you cut and stack. 1 board = 1 2x4 so 1.5’ as sx4 havent been 2x4 for years now. Makes rebuiling and OLD house a pain.

2inchs thick (well technically 1 and a hlaf as Phill said), cut em long so someone can hold em.
Tape, screw or nail em together. I tape mine.
2x6’s are much nicer on the chest.
But yeah a standard 2x4 is only 1 1/2 inch thick.
