The Wire is the Greatest TV Series

… that has ever been or ever will be.

I’ll admit, i was skeptical at first, but after the first episode i was hooked.

The characters in the show are all amazing - From avon and stringer to marlo, to mcnulty to the bunk, Chris, Snoop, Omar, Doogie - any of the corner boys, Wheebay… i could go on forever.

The second season took a while to grow on me but ulimately ended up being my favorite.

Ill also end this by saying that i hate cop dramas, i havent ever watched CSI, SVU, Law and Order, or any of their spin offs, but this show is in a whole different league. So, if you havent watched the wire, i strongly suggest that you do. If you HAVE been lucky enough to see the wire, lets talk about it.

It’s probably my favorite series ever. Every single season is good till the end. Can’t say that about many other series.

you poor misguided fool, The Sopranos is the Greatest TV Series that has ever been or ever will be.

The Sopranos was awesome but it went downhill when they got rid of Furio. And what happened to the Russian?

The series finale sucked moosecock.

no way sopranos by far. season 2 of the wire with the truckers and the bit where they went around messing with bodies so the investigation wouldnt get shut down were a bit shit. Its still great though

The Wire season 4 Got me Hard greatest season of any show I have ever seen.

Sopranos lost steam after pussy died. But was great for a couple seasons.

Will they ever create a better character than Bubbles

I just started watching “The Wire” as well. I’m on episode 8 of season 2. Thank goodness HBO is playing all the seasons over again in order. I too, am not a fan of the cop shows either and am absolutely hooked on this show.

DUDE?

pussy died in season 2!

are you saying it got shit after season 2?

Gotta luv Baltimore! They actually DOWNPLAYED shit for TV compared to some of the shit I saw/went through growing up there. Greenmount and 33rd in the '80’s was OFF THE FUCKING CHAIN. Hampden (Falls and 36th) wasn’t much better. Most of the friends I had from the neighborhood are either dead or in jail.

It hasn’t gotten much better. My Cousin is currently a Baltimore City Cop. Some of the shit he tells me that doesn’t make the news puts the Wire to shame.

The Sopranos defo. James Gandolfini layed down the best acting probably seen on tv.

Wire is good however season 2 was as slow as a week in jail. Didn’t really kick in till season 3 IMHO.

Oz is worth a mention as well.

Was weaksauce after Stringer got shot.

I would agree that The Wire is one of the greatest - The wife and I just finished Season 3 this week and we’re really looking forward to 4/5. It was recommended to us by a buddy of ours upon hearing we loved The Shield - another top notch show.

Someone mentioned Oz - another great show! It’s amazing to see where that cast has ended up over the years…

Oz was great until it turned into gay porn. I forgot how many seasons it was but the last 2 totally sucked.

this thread isnt to discuss other shows that are a cut above ‘sons of tucson’ or ‘just shoot me’ or ‘will and grace’ or whatever other garbage TV shows are being spoon fed to the housewives eating their TV dinners. I havent had much exposure to sopranos, or oz, but it seems like people can pinpoint where the show fell apart. You know were the wire fell apart? when the credits rolled after the last episode of season 5. i almost cried knowing that there will never be another show this great, i imagine i felt like davinci must have felt after he finished painting the mona lisa.

Aye true mate. It fell apart after Adibese got killed who, funnily enough was the most prolific rapist on the show.

Gotta agree it was toned down. I grew up around Memorial Stadium, so I knew Greenmount and 33rd very well. And don’t forget about Old York Rd. I went to Poly and played football so half the white guys on the team lived in Hampden, so I did my time around there, too - during the day because you know how it got at night.

Yeah, The Wire is amazing. In my opinion, there’s no contest between it and The Sopranos. I had only seen a random episode here or there of both until this summer. I sat down and watched the entire 5 seasons of The Wire, one or two episodes a day until I finished it. Then I started watching Sopranos, got halfway through the 2nd season and just got bored.

Different strokes for different folks, but The Wire is one of the few shows that really has a conclusive story arc from start to finish. I was in a bad mood for like 3 days after I finished it because I wouldn’t be able to watch it any more.

I might feel more negatively about season 2 if I had been watching them once a week and then had to wait another year for season 3. By itself, season 2 wasn’t great but I think it added a lot to the overall story arc. Prez was a sneakily great character.

If you guys liked The Wire you should check out Treme. It’s by the guys that made The Wire and it has some of the same actors in it. First episode was cool. Here’s the trailer:

Ok, I grew in in brooklyn East New York, and season 4 of the wire had me thinking there is NO fucking way life can be that bad in Baltimore. I talked to some co-workers who assured me it fucking was.

Man one of the biggest crimes in tv is the wire season 4 didn’t get a fucking Emmy, it was after that I gave up on award shows.
Fuck every person that voted that year.(period)

Every Member of the show deserved an award. As my man would say, Shhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

Welllll, didn’t become total shit but slipped in a pile and started the slippery slope to shitz-ville.
Did love it but it should have ended 3 seasons before it did.
