The Secret (Video)?

Just wanted to know if anybody out there has ever heard of a video called the secret? Is it related to scientology?
Any help i would be gratefull.

I dont think it’s related to scientology. The premice is the law of atraction which states something like “everything in your life, you attracted into your life”.

though i cant completly agree and there is some kooky stuff, overall it’s pretty right on in my book.
I don’t agree with EVERYTHING they propose,

For example: “like attracts like-it’s a scientific fact” actually i was under the impression that opposites attract but i may be misunderstanding something. another thing is this whole deal would be a hard sell in a 3rd world country, or to try and tell a 6 year old girl that she is responsable for her uncle molesting her. how did she invite THAT into her life? (unless you believe in reincarnation and karma)

It goes well with the “what the bleep do we know” movie. It can be a little self helpy and it feel like they are gonna ask you to buy something by the end. But they aren’t. I mean nothing outside of the video you are already watching.

I think anything that wakes people up and empowers them to be aware of the choices and decisions in their lives, is a good thing. See past the silly new age stuff and listen to the root of the message.

It’s a book/movie that if you read with skepticism, you won’t enjoy. Otherwise it’s great.

It’s not Scientology, sort of new-agey perhaps, but they borrow ideas from many religious traditions and elsewhere.

You can learn something from everyone, and while I don’t agree with everything in the video, it certainly contains a wealth of thought-provoking ideas, some of which I’ve found beneficial to apply.

Yeah I heard about it, as soon as I heard Oprah had the creator on her show, I passed. Read a few reviews on it from some trusted sources. My feeling is that like the previous post said, I can’t buy into the it being fact that we create all things in our lives through our thoughts.

Not in any way to discount the power of thought and intentions for creation in our lives, but I feel that these types of blanket generalized beliefs can be damaging to many folks when they aren’t a true picture of how we think and create.

Please spare me the crap about being positive all the time, in an effort to be a good creator in your life. BS like that just seems way over board and insulting and leads to a society that is concerned about crap and political correctness.

Honestly John Berardi’s thread on "I wonder had more practicle ways to achieve your goals in life then anything I’ve heard about the Seceret!!

Plus I read an article on CNN where the whench stiffed a bunch of the folks Depok Chopra, and a few others that were spokes people on her movie. She promised them a cut of the gross to give their appearances.

I guess the seceret is get a bunch of big names to back you, promise them anything, and then stiff them and keep it all to yourself. See the universe provides!!!

Honestly there are better things to read and work at to achieve your goals in life!!!

I have read the book and the video. It’s an interesting video and book. Basically the Secret, is the law of attraction. What you think about most is what you attract. It is a mixture religious beliefs, history and science. My own personal experiences have proved many of the tenets. I’m not normally one to subscribe or purchase self help books or anything like this, but it really made me think. I’d recommend it.

This topic was covered a while back but still. To me its taking a solid idea, and fluffing it up with a load of crap.

Their idea is the “Law of Attraction” or as they call it, “The Secret”. What they say is that the more you think on something, the universe will magically guide it to you. Sarcasm intended.

This is not how it works.

What they are doing is playing on how our mind affects our perceived reality. Let me use an example:

You go out looking for a new car. You haven’t quite bought it yet, but have decided on a new one, let’s say a red Pontiac Grand Am. 2 things are now going to happen, first off you will notice every and any Grand Am of the same model out on the road, and secondly, any red Grand Ams are going to stand out like the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

First off, this has nothing to do with the law of attraction. You have told your mind that the Red Grand Am is of importance to you, so subconsciously you will now be taking note of any and all of them, because of this fact.

If I focus all my attention on nailing Jessica Alba in the butt is the universe gonna make that happen? Not likely.

So, they tell you to focus on what you want in life, this is basically like altering your reality. You keep telling your mind that XXXX is what you want, what you need, and it will slowly start getting ingrained in your subconscious.

At this point people, items, anything that can help you achieve this goal or need will stand out more than anything else. A chance meeting with someone might lead you to a conversation, in said conversation you bring up this goal or want, and if that person can help you with it he might say so and you will definitely remember it.

What the people of the Secret would have you believe is that the universe brought this person to you, but I don’t buy that.

So now you might be wondering how you might achieve this? I recommend a few things:

  1. Create a list of your goals, stick them up next to your bed, where you can read over them last thing at night and then first thing in the morning. Read it often, ingrain it in your mind.

  2. Spend 10 minutes every day reflecting on these goals. Think of what it would be like to have achieved them, LIVE it in your mind.

Yeah, it sounds a bit wishy washy, but the power of the mind is absolutely amazing. And if you are wondering how I happen to know some of this stuff, well, I read quite a bit. And most of my reading literature is recommended by my father who is a business coach.

I’ll be happy to try and answer any more questions on this if I can.

Maybe you should have drank your morning coffee before posting. I mean, I am not a morning person and it is best to leave me alone until I’ve had some caffeine but this is kind of overboard cynicism.

I don’t even understand the latter part of this paragraph and how it relates to apathy and PC; and to say that having or attempting to have a positive attitude is not beneficial is ludicrous; ask a PGA golfer or any professional athlete.

Don’t take this the wrong way but you can’t possibly be attracting anything good in your life with this negativity…maybe it’s time to make a change.

Great post

Great post but thus far nobody has offered up a link or anything…Beuhler…Beuhler??[/quote]

I don’t have any book links on hand, give me a few days and I will get you half a dozen titles easily.

Will the (Secret)video help me pull 550, Squat 600, and Bench 450? Those are the secrets I want out of a video. Sombody have a link? cd

I have seen it and from it’s premise of being one with the universe and using mind power to manipulate matter i would say it is more in line with Rosicrucian philosophy than Scientology. It is a little weird and at it’s root really centers around positive attitude, self help book and seminar ideals. they just add a supernatural “what if” aura to it.

Scientology’s video would be more about conforming to a group and then giving it’s leaders your money while recruiting new people to give money at the same time.

Thank you for everybodys help. I knew i could get some info from someone here being nobodyelse knew what i was talking about from where i live.

If it motivates you, then it’s great. If not, move on.

Best advice on this thread yet. Some people, like myself, would never buy into it. My mind doesn’t work like that, same reason I don’t turn to religion for strength. If it can help you in your life, then more power to you.
