The Power Metal Thread

Ok, so we had a Death/black metal thread. We need a thread for all the epicness that is good power metal. It can be cheesy at times, but I think we all agree that the sheer musicianship makes up for those cheesy moments. Besides, if there was one thing done right out of all the things the 80s got wrong, it is that you can’t deny the power of the All Mighty Riff.

There’s really nothing better than twisted guitar solos harmonized together.

So, let’s get some stuff going…

Here’s a favorite of mine. The best band no one’s heard of…Twilightning. They’re the only band I’ve ever heard put harmonized sweep arpeggios into a RHYTHM riff…here.

Another good one:

Also a fan of Excalion’s music:

The video leaves a lot to be desired, but I don’t usually watch it. I just listen. Their song writing blends very well. Not very many moments when they switch styles or riffs abruptly, they flow pretty well and transition smoothly.

Hail and Post 'em up!

I try how I try to enjoy power metal, but it’s just so lame and flakey most of the time.

Bands I can listen to, Stratovarius, Hammerfall (so gay) and some other bands whose name I’m too lazy to look up

I like Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, some Hammerfall, and a few others. Pretty good shit.

Sure it can get cheesy, but the musicianship is second to none. That’s what matters most to me. So much better than anything on the damn radio.

Symphony X - Of Sins and Shadows

os this gay enough to qualify as Power Metal?

Ok, radio music is truly worthless… There used to be a few good “heavy” channels(right word? Stations?), but those are long gone (at least over here).

I do believe that’s progmetal. (well, whatever, right?)

Edit: LOL watching the vid I got a hair-dye ad at the bottom hahaha

I love the cheesiness kind of goes with my love for fantasy stories and movies. Plus the epicness of the music is very motivating and gets me pumped and in a good mood. Its the best music to lift to. I do find it funny that people can talk shit about this kind of music and then turn on hair metal and tell me how much better it is.

Hahaha, well it has the cheesey vocals, so fair game right?

I think power metal is the joke of the metal genre. They all wish they lived in the middle ages and that dragons kidnapped princesses for them to save.

So we’re pretending Nu metal never happened?

Nice post AllerCuzine. I totally forgot about EdGuy. Haven’t listened to them in a long time…not sure I’d listen to their ballad stuff first though

I know you’re a black metal fan. So am I for that matter, and a huge ass thrash fan. But power metal, despite (or because of?) the cheese, puts me in a pretty good mood when I listen to it…'sides I can appreciate it solely as a guitarist too…Hammerfall is the king of cheese. So much so it kinda grates on me…but I still listen to them off and on.

I love EdGuy. They’ve got a serious sense of humor about the whole thing. This song isn’t even a song I really like, but I think the video makes up for it. Makes me laugh every time I watch it.

I am 100% gay for power metal. Sure it’s gimmicky as hell, but that’s the beauty of it. Anything you’re into, you’ve got a power metal band for it.

Like werewolves? Check out Powerwolf!

Powerwolf - Mother Mary Is A Bird Of Prey

WW2 buff? Listen to Sabaton!

Sabaton - Ghost Division

Arrg! Want te be a pirate matey? Alestorm!

Alestorm - Wolves of the Sea

Look forward to ragnaroek to kicl Loki’s ass? Rebellion is your band!

Rebellion - Asgard

And my personal favorite, Kiuas. No theme, but more awesome than scotch-flavored titties.

Kiuas - Conqueror

That’s enough for this post. I’ll post some more later though. I might have more power metal than porn on my computer at this point.

Good call on Kiuas. I hadn’t heard Rebellion before, they’re definitely in my next training track list.

Speaking of Helloween… I loved this song growing up.

Pretty Maids

Dragon Force.
